Hey guys,
So i FINALLY made the switch from Windows 8/8.1 to Android Lollipop!! after almost 3 years being in the windows ecosystem coming back to Android is really refreshing (and I'm kinda liking it a lot more than I expected! tho dont tell the window central folks i said that O:-)) I went with the Moto X 2nd gen coz of the stock android experience but I was actually really excited about some of the moto features that are suppose to make your phone easier to use.
but yeah 3 years is a long time to not be in the loop and I have a feeling there's still a lot my phone can do that i havent been able to tap into,
like for instance:
I've been using message+ but idk how to change the background and font on the text, or possible change the keyboard?
I've use the Moto X voice system (mines programed to Lets See Moto X) but i dont find it too useful, so far it just sends me to google search and I thought it went into your calendar and text etc?
Is there a way to change your unlock screen?
Also how can I have the phone just send me push notification on certain apps but not all?

Sorry if these sound crazy noob, but bear with me! So any tips, hints, friendly advice about my phone and android in general will go a long way!!

Hi and welcome to AndroidCentral.

I'm also an ex-Windows Phone user. I spent three years on Windows Phone, and I'm using the first generation Moto X. I'll be getting the third generation Moto X in a couple weeks.

I don't use the Moto voice features much, other than to announce my calls and texts when I'm at home.

I customized my device using Nova Launcher Prime. https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...com.teslacoilsw.launcher.prime&token=SEmcTJqK

The keyboard I like is SwiftKey. https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ails?id=com.touchtype.swiftkey&token=AM9jsPeT

For the notifications, go to settings, sound and notifications

Then app notifications

Then you can pick which notifications to disable in your list of apps

Those screenshots are from my Nexus 7 tablet, but the Moto X looks the same, since it and the Nexus both run stock Android Lollipop.

Hey thanks Laura!! So one has to download the swiftkey through an App? it doesnt come native? will i have to get apps as well to change the background and font?

the Nova looks like a lot of fun! will totally check it out!!:D

Oh and thanks for the screen shot!! helped a lot!

Here is a list of some of the commands that will work with Moto X.

Hope that is helpful. Welcome to Android

Yess!! exactly what I needed thanks! I'll deff have to tinker with it more though coz I tried using "Lets See Moto X, whats up" and all it did was pull out google word search for whats up lol

Whats up is a tricky one. It works sometimes for me.Tried right now and it gave me a good search. I sent a text message from my work phone and tried again and it worked. Other times i have tried and it does a search for whatsapp.

In regards to the keyboard. Android allows full support for third party keyboards. Swiftkey is an app that replaces the stock keyboard app. Swiftkey does not allow you to customize backgrounds or fonts but they do have themes you can choose. some are free some you pay for. There are many apps out there but i only use stock or swiftkey.
