When I connect my Android (Lollipop) phone in "Media Device (MTP)" mode, nothing appears in Windows Explorer.

If I change the mode to "Camera (PTP)", the phone's SD card appears in Windows Explorer under "Devices and Drives", and I can access the image files.

If I change the moder to "USB Storage" mode, two drives appear in Windows (10) Explorer - although when I double-click one of them, the message "Please insert a disk into (F:)" appears.

Can anyone suggest how I can get Windows to recognise MTP mode?

Hi,
I had to install the drivers on the PC for my phone (Galaxy Nexus, no SD card). Is your's a new phone? Did you google for the drivers?

Thank you for the very helpful reply. Yes, it is a new phone. Following your suggestion, I have asked the manufacturer whether they can provide drivers. Meanwhile, I'll just have to take the SD card out of the phone in order to copy files to it.

Welcome to the forums. When you plug the device in, is there a notification for the connection type? If there is, you may need to change it from charging to file transfers.

Yeah, if it's a new phone, some might have these options in a notification so you have to choose between: charging only, MTP (file transfers), PTP (photo transfers) and, some, MIDI. As Golfdriver97 says, choose MTP.
All the best
