Is there a right or best way to do Smart Switch?

The included quick start leaflet says WIRELESS PREFERRED!

but, people say wired seems more stable.

It depends on your connection and honestly which phone you're coming from. Older devices I would definitely recommend using a cable.

Wired has been quicker and more efficient for me, compared to the times I've done Smart Switch wirelessly. Going to stick with using the cable tomorrow when I transfer everything over.

But why would the included leaflet say always "wireless Bluetooth preferred"? You can read that tiny leaflet often entitled Quick Start Guide.

They don't explain why.

I also doubt the speed benefit of wired as wireless is now as fast as wired.

Wonder who might actually know this...

Being a guinea pig for you OP. Was going to do wired, but opted for wireless. Still setting up but going pretty smooth. I love that Smartswitch instantly promoted for me to accept on my pixel 9 pro xl before I even picked it up. Also love the way their doing the setup. You almost can't tell that smartswitch is working in the background. Only indicator is the app being open on the device you're swithing from. Saying that I do find it strange that I'm not given a time or status estimation on the pixel 9 pro. I can't tell what stage it's in on the trasnferring process which is a little concerning. I'm guessing that it's still gathering data to perform the actual transfer.Screenshot_20250131_011014_Smart%20Switch.jpg

On second glance status was in my notification bar on the S25U. So use to being able to see the status on both devices. Going smooth so far and moving in a timely manner which is great.Screenshot_20250131_012200_One%20UI%20Home.jpg

I did wired and it took about an hour, but you can start setting some stuff up right away.

i ultimately did wired, as they changed their previous suggestion a bit:

the previous several years, on the quick start guide, it specifically said that wireless is PREFERRED!

this time around, that sentence is gone.

i did wired this time, and it took around 1 hour and 15 mins, much less in previous years. but what they missed or didn't transfer over isn't known to me at this point yet. it takes time to discover what they didn't transfer.

thank you folks for helping me out!

Wire will always be faster
Honestly, I feel like it's negligible. My wireless transfer took essentially the same time it would have if it was wired. It ultimately depends on the connection and the device you're transferring from.

Wireless. No issues. 40 minutes
Crazy thing is after about 20 minutes I completely forgot that my old phone was still doing the transfer and even though it told me not to exit the app, I started talking on my phone and even walked out the room lol. Luckily that didn't stop the transfer at all .

Only reason I prefer using wired is about four years ago, I used wireless, and despite clicking on the icons to transfer everything over...my calendar didn't transfer over. That in itself wasn't terrible. The worst part was I boxed up my trade-in device (and factory reset it) before I realized my calendar didn't transfer over. So mainly for peace of mind, and due to previous self-created trama, I use the wired transfer process.

First time doing wireless over wired and everything went smoothly but I also have backups from smart switch PC /Google/Samsung cloud

I did wired this go around just for grins and didn't notice much difference, maybe a hair quicker.

This. I have so many back ups it's ridiculous not to mention duplicate info since I have so many devices, but hey at I'll never lose anything important lol.

I haven't used Smart Switch in years, last time I used it either I screwed up or it didn't work correctly. But I have so many years of info and data in not setting this one up as "new" again. Did that with my S23 Ultra and it took literally 3 hours. I read though everything on Samsung's website about using smart switch. My main concern is transferring text messages and call logs as I use this for my work phone. I have never been able to get those 2 things to transfer using smart switch. I never even saw them as an option to select in smart switch. I'm pretty sure it must be something I'm doing because it says you can on Samsung's smart switch guide on their website. Keeping my fingers crossed.
