Wireless Charger | Charging Rates w/ Case versus w/out Case

I recently got my wireless orb charger and was ecstatic to learn that it can charges through my Spigen Ultra Thin Air Case. However, I did have a question that I was hoping that someone on this forums would be able to answer.

While the wireless charger works with the case on, does anybody know if it charges more rapidly without the case? Do the few mm of plastic between the phone and the orb reduce the rate at which the phone charges? I was just curious if I should, ideally, be popping off the case before using the orb.

One thing I have noticed thus far--the phone gets significantly hotter when charging through the case. Without the case, it doesn't get any warmer than it does when charging via usb cable.
