Wireless Charging

S ome of these temps do seem high. Would definitely be beneficial if everyone stated what they are using as far as charging goes and if a case is on it. My stats

House 70 degrees
Phone reached 93 degrees while charging
Ghost 100 wireless charging pad
No case on phone

The highest my Maxx has hit is 95 degrees when charging on the Nexus 4 wireless charger. It hovers around that temperature for a good 40 mins before going back to around 84-88 degrees for the remainder of the charge. I haven't had any problem centering my phone to get a charge. I just plop it on and it's good to go.

There was a long post here somewhere that indicated the amount of charge the battery has may effect the temperature. Given your's was hot only for the first few minutes, it may be interesting also to see if fully discharged batteries get hotter, then once they hit 20% or so they cool down. Just a thought.

I placed mine on the ghost at a little under 30% and it never exceeded 93 degrees and eventually maintained 88

I use the Ghost 100 as well. I charged mine for 40 mins to test if it would get overly hot and it didn't. It was w little warm but nothing excessive.

Forgot to mention, I don't use a case... Don't know if that makes a difference.

I just went out and bought the Ghost 100. Ill report later tonight..

Update:

I think the house temp is set to 71 but I don't think Ambient temp really matters.
Battery put on the Ghost 100 at 68% when I took the first reading using GSam Battery Monitor. the * is degrees in Fahrenheit, I'm leaving the Phone on the charger, Hitting the on/off button then sliding info bar down fast enough to read the temp then hitting the button again to turn off the screen. The screen isn't on for anymore then 2 seconds.

11:17pm 81*
11:23pm 87*
11:31pm 93*
11:44pm 93*
11:50pm 99*

at this point I'm thinking GSam might have a delay or something and is off. 31 to 44 in 13 minutes same temp at 93* then 44 to 50, 6 minutes 6 degrees?

11:53pm still 99*
11:57pm 99*
12:13am 98*
12:28am 97*

I think at this point its slowly going down enough to not need to check it regularly.

I think starting temp might have something to do with over heating some people have seen? I'm going to go heavy use tomorrow and see if I can knock the battery down to the 20s. and redo this.

I hate to sabotage this thread but can anyone tell me what the charging rate of the Maxx is plugged into the wall? 2 amp?

You may be onto something here.

I hit 104-108 over three hours on my nexus 4 charger.

I hit 93 usually via USB.

So is there a stand up wireless charger that works with the Maxx? I'm going to pick one up this weekend and would be sweet to have a wireless deal dock. It could even be landscape something similar to the deal dock for the droid x. I loved that accessory

Been trying to get that answered for days

I can't believe I haven't found it anywhere. Charging my GNex with a Hyperion is painful @ 1 amp. Don't get me wrong, it's not a deal breaker by any means, but I'd love to know what we're dealing with here.

You might even be able to put NFC sticker on the bottom of charger. Then if you slide the phone onto it NFC will register before charger. Although now that I think about it, NFC will probably make a sound unless you tasker that off.

Got a way of disabling the NFC sound? The sound is faster than Llama's silencing of the sound.

Nokia Wireless charging stand and Tylt Vu

I am wondering what the verdict is on the heat related issues and wireless charging?
I have noticed temps of 105 with the Ghost 100 and I am using a thick Otterbox case. I haven't seen folks here reporting whether or not they are using cases? So is the heat related to the charger base, the case or just the nature of wireless charging? But I am definitely seeing much higher temps than USB. Seems that the greater distance between the coils caused by a case would lower the induced current and lower heat. But maybe there are other considerations such as coupling and reflection.

Also I can't tell if the heat is coming from the charger or the phone. Sure would be convenient with this Otterbox case though!

I've seen 105-110? charging on the wireless Qi Powerholic plate I've been using.

I've also seen 117? just surfing the net on a 4G connection.

I'm just not going to stress about this issue.

Thumbs up for the Tylt Vu. I've had mine for a couple days and it works flawlessly with no tweaking. By tweaking, I mean I don't have to adjust the Maxx on the charging pad to line up the charging areas. This was a problem I had been experiencing on the Incipio Ghost "Droid" branded charger being sold in the Verizon stores. The larger charging surface area of the Tylt is much preferred for the larger Droid Maxx and I enthusiastically recommend it.

I also concluded that surfing the web on 4G raised the temp to 105+ I also read that there is a safety system build into the phone to shut down after a specific heat. All the talk about higher temps wear out the battery faster, I've noticed just being in my pocket can raise the temp to around 91-95 I'd say I'm sure the R&D department were fully aware of all these symptoms. My guess would be that using the wireless or usb is fine. Its a phone that the average consumer will use for about 1-2 years and under multiple instances of heat stress, the battery will still last 1-2 years and the average person wouldn't honestly notice the difference if it was 10% less degraded. instead of 48 hours its 43.2 hours. I honestly wouldn't mind and I'd still enjoy the wireless charging.
