Wireless Tethering for Root Users

Wireless Tether not working on Stock Froyo
I'm a true noob. Please bear with me. I have the Epic 4g and have run several DK28 roms successfully NebulaROM 1.0.2, 1.0.6, ViperROM 3.0.3, ViperROM 4.01 (Heaven & Hell), Superheroes Batman. All very awesome. But I couldn't get Wireless Tether to work. On any of them. I have tried wireless_tether_2_0_5,
wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre8 thru wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre15
and wireless_tether_2_0_6 none of those worked.
I also tried Barnacle and PDaNet... they didn't work either.
So I figured I would just go back to stock Eclair and try MobileAP for i9000...that one worked!! But i really wanted to be on Froyo so i did the update to stock froyo and tried all the above have tried I figured out how to flash the stock Froyo and tried all of the above apps in stock froyo and none of them worked.
So my question is if there is anyone out there with stock Froyo on the Epic with some kind of wireless tether working (with a win7 laptop =D)...and if there is could you help me get my act together. I would really like to get it working.

Thanks ragnarokx but wireless_tether_2_0_5-RC1 didn't work either. My lap top just says its taking too long or something like that and I never connect. Is there something I'm missing? some setting or something?
It's probably your computer. Yesterday I connected fine with my OSX laptop. Then my friend tried to connect later with his Windows 7 laptop and got a message about not being able to use an ad-hoc connection and some setting that needs to be changed. This isn't the first time I've heard about problems with Windows and tethering. I wish I could help but I primarily use OSX.
Wireless tether and preventing 4g sleep.
Is there a way to keep 4g connected (not in sleep mode) while using wireless tether v2.0.5-pre8. I have a rooted stock Epic4g.
I am tethered to my pc and after a couple of minutes the internet stops working and when i turn on the phone the 4g symbol is in sleep mode. How do i make it so it doesnt snooze.
This 4g sleeping is annoying while using the phone in general. Sometimes while using apps on my phone that need internet, the 4g doesnt even wake up. i have to use another way to wake it up and then the app can get internet.

I don't see anything under settings, so unless there is some app that can prevent 4G sleep you may have to stick with 3G tethering.
Oh noes! 3g in my area has recently been really slow. Around 500 kbps vs its old 2000 kbps? maybe sprints throttling it?

But run a speed test from your computer and check out the results.
When I did this my dl was aroun 1.1 mbps which is what I usually get with 3g compared to the 2.2-5 wth 4g.
So chances are you'd be btter off with just tethering 4g.
But I tried this out months ago when I first realized I get 4g at my school. So it might be different now. But check fo sho.

ragnarokx, which kernel, ROM, and Wireless Tether app verison are you using? are you running DK28 and 2_0_5-RC1?

Which app are you using? Wireless Tether from the Market is the best for rooted. I setup first time a few minutes to my laptop. Vista 32bit and also a laptop running Vista 64bit.
No problems what so ever.
Wifi tethering - is this as good as it gets?
Just tested my internet speed via wifi tethering:
1.03 Mbps down, 0.92 Mbps up
And via 4g on the phone's browser:
0.92 Mbps down, 0.98 Mbps up
I'm using the wireless tether app here.

Yes sir. I've not only tried with the laptop and desktop but with my game consoles and iPod Touch as well.
