Just like plasma TVs back in the day would cost an obnoxious amount of money because it was new technology, and later on in time prices have gone down drastically on TVs, will smartphones reach a point where prices would start going down again in the future? Or will they reach a point where the price stays constant for a while?

Will this price hikes in flagship phones give more advantage to mid-range devices?

Flagship phones today are reaching price range of a laptop, and many would have no problem paying the price of a flagship phone but many others might, with the demand and amount of technology being added to smartphones it only seems that prices will just continue to increase.

Where do you think the future of smartphones is going?

I think there's going to be pushback from consumers as phones become more "incremental upgrades" in subsequent generations. Fewer and fewer people will spend $1200 on the next-gen phone that slightly outperforms their current one.

Probably prices will need to start coming down as "cutting edge" tech of today becomes commonplace. There's only SO much we can expect phones to do, long-term, right?

There will always be a core demographic that will upgrade to the latest no matter what, but I think that's a relatively small number a few years down the road.

That said, I still might get the Note 9, even though my 8 is awesome.

I see it the same way - maybe $1,500, but then the prices will start coming down, and we;ll see flagships for under $1,000 again.

Assuming that the economy lasts.
