Woohoo! 25 cent app sale at Google Play

It's on the Google Play store. There is a thing at the top that says something like 25 cent sale.

Thanks, just found it.

I just figured out that the original post mentioned AppSales as an app and that is where they found this. I didn't realize it was an app when I started this thread, I"m a newbie. Thanks for the tips, I'll figure this stuff out eventually.

Just picked up the Office Pro app for 2 bits. Great deal, it's normally an expensive app! Can't wait to see what they have tomorrow.

I'm not a huge fan of games, but I did get Asphalt 7 and three books for $.99. From my understanding the sale will be on for 5 days, so I'll keep checking back for more deals.

Yes, but is it a stripped down version? I read you have to buy modules separately, such as a dictionary. If you don't buy it, all the words are underlined in documents like they're misspelled. Wonder how much the extras cost, and if they are included when you play the full price.

I bought a few games that I thought would be suitable for children. Can you buy any games where creatures aren't constantly shooting at each other, knocking things down, blowing things up, pulling tails, thrown in the air, etc; and that don't constantly bug you to buy other games, or stuff called tokens and similar words? IMHO, even 25 cents is too much for some of these games.

I thought for a moment about the Office app, but I use the Kingsoft app--works great for what I need in Excel.

No, it's not a stripped down version. It looks and works nicely on the Nexus 7, or at least as well as a tablet office suite can. They all have limitations in terms of features and usability. I suspect you'll need to wait for a Windows 8 tablet to get an office suite closer to the real thing. Still, Office Pro and the like do a decent job with the basics.

Yes, they try to make money and stay in business by selling you additional, optional add-ins. One is a dictionary/thesaurus (they have a couple different versions, like Collins and Websters). You really don't need this, and not having it does not affect the spell checking capabilities. All the words are not underlined. I think this was a quickly resolved update bug on JB devices.

Another option is a font pack that includes many additional Microsoft fonts. I think it's less than $5 and again isn't that necessary, unless you're going to be a big time user of this office suite or have some special need for it.

Even when the app was at full price, these were additional cost options.

Some reviewers complained about being nagged to buy these within the app. However, I've not noticed anything overly obtrusive in this regard. I just opened the app and got a pop up window asking if I wanted to buy the dictionary, and I easily dismissed it, being careful to first check the "Do not ask again" box. If it pops up occasionally in the future, it's just not a big deal. This is how they make a profit, give people jobs, and stay in business. I haven't had any pop ups while creating, editing or reviewing documents.

So, overall I'd say it's worth 25 cents, mainly because 25 cents is basically free. However, I certainly wouldn't have paid full price, or even half price, for this or any other office suite. This is mainly because I don't have enough use for them, not because they're bad products. The always free Kingsoft Office is also nice, but Office Pro might be a little better. Try both and decide for yourself.

Try World of Goo, it's awesome. Also Temple Run and Agent Dash, which are variations on the same theme but both very good, and free.

Just to let you know, this isn't restricted to apps, there appears to be a sale on books and movies too.

2 questions, what time today does the new list of apps come out? Also, has anyone with Office Pro used excel with complex formulas? Can it handle them? I made my own engineering godbook and some of the calculations get pretty hairy.

I'm going to be using it for that later. Will report back.

That description of yours really limits the game choices. So no Angry Birds, Doodle Jump, Sprinkle or Grabatron? Hmm... Where's My Water or Where's My Perry, Cut The Rope, Fruit Ninja, Super Monkey Ball, Wisp, Zookeeper. I'd also recommend Granny Smith and Jetpack Joyride but Granny does jump in the air and fall a lot and the guy in Jet Pack gets hit with lasers and missiles and knocks over the people running on the ground. Some of those games will ask you to pay to unlock certain features but you can turn off in app purchases or in some cases beat the levels to unlock future ones instead of purchasing them.

I just got it so I could have my spreadsheets and maybe a doc or two on the tablet and be able to read them, not create them. For me, it's next to impossible to create a letter or spreadsheet or what have you on a tablet.

Today has the same apps as yesterday. Wth?

Yeah, I saw that too. What's up with that? Looks like another broken promise.

Yesterday none of the sales were live until sometime around noon central and they didn't have links to lists in Play until 1 or 2. Every other day of the year they don't usually update the store front until 2 central anyway. I'd expect to see people finding the new content reduced in the next hour or so and then links to the full lists for the day a couple of hours after that.
