Word of warning when buying full retail from Verizon

I got my HTC One with out a contract price.

When dealing with the employees you have to question everything they say... Eventually I got to buy the phone not at the $599 (it goes up to $650 from upgrade fee and taxes) price tag but only around $360 with a bundled microphone and car charger. It totaled to less the full off contract price, and amazingly now I have a bluetooth speaker worth $100 that I can sell, and an extra charger. :p Loving my life

Could you post your receipt (blocking out any personal info)?

For those who have yet to go buy their HTC One and want to buy it at full retail cost, DO NOT go to Verizon. I went to Verizon this morning with the full intention not to get a contract upgrade and when I told the rep that he stated that Verizon will not let anyone buy the phone without a contract upgrade. He went on saying that he doesn't know when Verizon will let people buy the phone off contract, but he feels as though it could be awhile since the iPhone is still "not allowed" to be sold without a contract either. That being said, go to Best Buy or another phone store and get it and save yourself the hassle of trying to buy directly from Verizon. Plus IMO Best Buy has a better replacement policy too, $10 a month for unlimited replacements no matter what happens compared to Verizon's $10 plan with only two replacements and limited coverage.

That is not true. There were several customers buying the One at full retail this morning in my store. You need to be demanding with the Verizon reps because most of them don't know what they are talking about. Besides, not all Best Buys will match the Verizon retail price. It is up to each individual Best Buy Mobile manager and the BB retail prices are always outrageously higher than Verizon. I am really surprised that the retail is only $599. I was expecting $699 like the S4, Maxx and Note 2.

So basically you got the "accessories" discount because it was lumped in with other items? I thought our buddy here Joe the Insider was pretty sure no discounts would apply to phone purchase, only monthly bill and/or accessories.

Care to weigh in on this Joe?
Yeah, they told me I couldn't buy the phone at the full retail price because "it's release day and they sell out quickly". I asked for the manager and asked what my options were and I was told you can get this bundle including the wireless bluetooth speaker, and phone charger. I'm not sure what kind of bundle it was but I agreed considering I'm getting more for less (I was originally going to be paying full retail price for just the phone). I walked out of the store a happy man  lol

Congrats on the new phone and thanks for the head's up on this. Stuck at work for a few more hours so not going to make it to the store until tomorrow. I may just avoid the middlemen and head straight for the manager when I get there. :)

Can this deal be duplicated at any VZW store??

Not a contradiction...I paid full price. 599.99 no contract, kept my unlimited data.. The difference, you dropped 599. 99 all at once, I'm doing it over time.

Yes that's a difference. The entire point of the post is him warning people dropping it all at once... And your talking something completely different. Of course they allow the payment plans.

He simply was saying he walked in.. Wanted to drop it all. They said no.

Some people get a promo that gives them x dollars off a full retail phone. I've seen it up to 400. The manager probably saw the promo and gave you the bundle price to save the reps accessory dollars.

Is this promo due to something on their account?

Wondering how one would know they have that promo available to them.

I went to Verizon corporate store to check out the HTC One and Droid Maxx. I was not really impressed with the HTC One. I thought the display on the Droid Maxx was better; the colors really popped. I left without buying because now I think I will wait for the LG G2.

:\ That is like saying you prefer a GS4's screen in comparison to the One's.... If you like a highly saturated blue tinted screen then be my guest but in the end the HTC One's display is superior and more realistic.

+1
At least the screen on the s4 is 1080p.

I went to a Verizon Corporate Store this morning. Bought my phone full retail, no problem. Set it up on the device payment plan, and 30 minutes later walked out with my activated phone.

Hello, I want to do the payment plan and keep my current unlimited data. Can you explain to me like I'm 5 on how you did this? I tried to see if I could do this online and it is adding a data plan.

Buy from Verizon costco. Same plans but more accessories and saved over $60. Most phones available, but some limited colors available.

I don't believe you can do this online yet. You'll probably have to call. VZW offers a payment plan (with a finance charge) on full retail phones. This is separate from Edge. Tell them you do NOT want Edge.

If I was you, I'd keep buying those bundles and selling them on eBay. You'd make mad $$.
The manager was like " I usually don't let people do bundles on launch day".

I think it was my muscles to be honest. :p
