Worn out knob

Okay, before anyone panics, I'm talking about the knob on my stylus. It sounds silly but you get 5 replacement knobs and removal tool with your tablet (new one) and there are instructions how to change it. My question is how do you know when it's worn out?

When it worn down to the plastic of the pen. However, I would remove it prior to that because it gets hard to grip with the tweezers when there is no tip left to grip.

Thank you. I was curious so I removed the original s-tip and put new one in. I went to handwriting mode and noticed the writing on the note pad was actually narrower than before. The tip had become dull. The pen moves around on the screen smoother also. I guess my old tip was getting worn down. It is the original tip that came with my NP12. I honestly didn't think it would wear at all.
