Isn't it kind of a waste of time trying to get root access before the Froyo release? I'm sure everyone that has an X will want the official 2.2 release, and it would likely break root access once again.

The thing is I use CM and there is someone working on CM for Droid X (At least last I heard they may have stopped with this news) and If I got a Droid X I would love CM6 on it since it has a ton more features than stock. With that being said CM6 is 2.2 so it won't matter at that point.

Locked bootloader = No thanks however if there is some way of unlocking it that would be amazing.

I wasn't really planning on getting the x anyway but the thought had crossed my mind. Especially ially since the wife is frustrated with her phone I could give her mine and pick up an x. Won't happen now. I have to hack my phones. I get too bored with having a stock phone that everyone else has. Locked bootloader =no buy for me. If this is a thing to come with Motorola phones then the Droid will be my last moto. Sucks cause I really like it and would have really like to buy another moto, as I'm sure they would want me to buy another one as well. I guess I'll be looking to HTC or Samsung.

You should understand that it can be rooted, and eventually custom roms will be done, because you can always fool a computer into thinking one thing is happening when a totally diff thing is happening.

It has already stopped me. Yeah I know I can run wireless tether with only root but who cares I have to much fun running pre release roms especially when they come months before carrier release. Oh and themeimg a stock rom isn't what I call fun

I think it might stop me... I am still thinking about it... I have been flashing my Omnia now for 2 years and I rooted my girl friends Droid for her and Flashed BB .4 and we both love it... I just dont like being locked down and not having full access to something I buy... That is like buying a computer and saying Windows Vista is preinstalled and you cant load any other OS on there until Toshiba puts out there own copy of Windows 7... I like to use beta and test everything... I know that we will get root on the X but no custom roms means no early updates to new versions of anything... But who knows some kind verizon or moto employee could release software to fix all this for us... but they have been working on the Milestone since it came out and havent cracked it yet... I am going to be there on Thursday to look at the Droid X and I will decide when I look at it... but im expecting it to be like a new puppy once you hold it and play with it you have to take it home... dang...

I really enjoy flashing ROMs on my Hero. It's fun to tinker and the support from the XDA community is second to none. However, the reality is that I wouldn't be going through the trouble of throwing on custom ROMs if the phone worked well out of the box. It doesn't, and in my opinion all HTC phones have this same problem.

If the Droid X works well out of the box, and isn't gimped in various ways then I won't be too sad about the lack of custom ROMs. I can certainly live with just having root access.

Rooting is stupid.

please explain to me why rooting is stupid? when you root a phone it expands your options so much. as long as you know what you're doing it is perfectly safe also. i am sorry but i totally do not agree with you at all, and i am sure the majority of the people will be behind me with this. but hey i guess to each their own right?

not being able to root a phone is like buying a computer. and then the computer and internet companies saying " oh by the way you can't access your administrator account ". that's honestly all rooting is anyways, it's absolutely STUPID that they are doing this to us.

I don't know who decides to lock it down though it is most likely Motorola or MAYBE Verizon but they definitely messed up on this one.

I feel the reason the Droid was so popular was because of the ability to load/do what you wanted with it.

Yes. You're exactly right. THAT'S the reason the Droid was so popular. Because of the 5% of people that root their Droid lol. You cracked the case! HahahahahH

Going to have to say, your right, the Droid 1 was so popular due to marketing, I mean sure the phone was cool and all, but the marketing was INURFACE! anyways, thats just my opinion.

I read someplace on this or another forum that Motorola will never release another phone with an unlocked boot loader again.. So people waiting for the Droid 2 than that phone will have a locked bootloader too.. :shrug

I am LIVID!!!!

Screw you motorola!! Just read their statement about locking down the bootloader...and that's exactly what i am doing...going elsewhere, so HTC/Samsung here i come.

The DX will be my wife's phone, to go with my Droid Incredible. She wouldn't give a rats a$$ about a custom ROM, this is completely a non-issue for me.
