Would not work

It worked for for about 20 minutes then would not respond when saying, "okay google." Tried factory resetting a few times still would not work.

I returned it. My question, is it worth buying again or are hardware issues common with the device?

Really bummed about it.

I think it's more to do with the service powering the device, not the device itself.

I'm experiencing the same thing at the moment. Ask it a question and it just sits there with the lights glowing. Thus has been happening recently.

Do you have other AIs in the house that are working when this one is not?
If this is the only AI you have and/or the others aren't working either, I'd say
it's a problem with your router. But why not give Google Home tech support a call.
They do an excellent job of getting you back up and running Some of the best
ts people I've ever spoken with!
