Would you buy a Pixel 3 again?

When the 3XL was released, I came to the difficult (but felt right at the time) decision to refrain from sticking to my normal annual upgrade cycle and upgrading from the 2XL to the 3XL, as most of the 'upgrades' were slated to come (and did arrive) via software to the 2XL; that said, I ended up moving to the 3XL anyway courtesy of extreme contest luck (thanks again, AC!).

Now, having had the 3XL for about 5 months, I can say that my instinct as a 2XL owner was spot-on.

In general, the 3XL is basically simply a slight improvement in every regard, with only a few outliers:

  1. The screen on the 3XL is far, far better. I never had issues with the 2XL's display, and still find it completely satisfactory - it only appears as 'lesser' when compared side-by-side with a superior screen.

  2. Notch... Not a fan, but hiding it in software settings does bring the device back to 2XL design. Still, having gone back and forth between the notch being visible and hidden, I now keep it visible. It's surprising how quickly the mind's eye forgets it is there.

  3. General 'bugs' and issues. When the 2XL came out, everyone screamed and cried about a million things wrong with it. I had mine from day 1 and to date have never had a single issue. The 3XL came out with many, but fewer complaints. I didn't get mine till December, and after patches were released that resolved many issues. Yet it's a rare thing for me to go more than 2-3 days on the 3XL without issues with RAM management (it's not likely an issue with the amount of RAM when the 2XL doesn't have the same issue at 4GB), restarts, etc.

  4. Wireless charging. It's a benefit, but isn't really letting you do something you can't (nearly as) conveniently do regardless. If you have a wireless charger, you have a power source that could be plugged in anyway (and charge faster). If my car had wireless charging I might be more appreciate, but alas... (Hey AC, how about a contest for a new Tesla? ;). I did get the Pixel Stand under promotion as well, which I like and use at work, but if I hadn't been able to finesse it to wirelessly charge while maintaining the ability to magnetically mount my phone in the car, it would have lost that battle as magmount in the car is, to me, much more functionally convenient.
In short, if you have the 2 or 2XL, imo, it wasn't worth upgrading to the 3 or 3XL at launch or now if fitting the expense into a budget is any issue at all. If not, then it's probably worthwhile (I'm fully aware that my experience with my 3XL is not necessarily the norm). Factoring out the glitches which I am chalking up to simply drawing the short straw of the inventory, I can't speak highly enough of overall user experience with Google phones. Fast and continuous updates keep it more secure, the camera remains (at least in the US, and at least for the moment) the best overall camera in a phone for point-and-shoot, and it is, for a phone, simple easier to use to get things done than others I've tried.

Thanks. I've decided to either go with those it the Nomad leather case. Both look great. How the added bulk?

I had the fabric case with the 2XL, and have the Nomad with the 3 XL. Both are fantastic, but my personal preference is the Nomad - the fabric case felt and looked great, but (at least with last year's version) was a bit slick. Never dropped it, but had a few scares. The leather looks and feels fantastic, and it's becoming even more of a pleasure to hold as it continues to break in and develop patina.

Definitely. No major complaints for my Pixel 3 64GB.

Camera is awesome. Unlimited original quality Google Photos backup is not mentioned enough, but I thoroughly appreciate it because I take a ton of photos.

Also loving the monthly updates as I feel my phone is always fresh and up-to-date.

Link for the case?

Wife and I both came from original Pixel XL to XL3s

Unless Google Really does something to screw up their phone, we will never go back to another vendor.

pixels run flawlessly.

I was just at a recent event in Vegas, everyone in our group had iPhones....... we were taking pictures of Shaq DJing. (he sucked), maybe he need Kobe?

anyway...once people saw the pictures the 3xl took, everyone used my phone to take pictures and share the Google file.... most are considering dumping their phone now

I completely agree. Came from an older Verizon Galaxy s8. I'll never go back to Samsung that's for damn sure!

My only regret is not getting XL, got the regular P3 a and while it's an OK size coming from a 7plus I realized after I much prefer larger size phones. Otherwise this decide is great, esp consider ongoing sales of the devices.

I'll tell you, the XL variance versus the smaller pixel, is nice not just a bigger batter for the biggest team but it's not too too big to hold even though it's more of a two-handed phone versus just one handing the phone all the time.

Yes, i realized this after i got mine bc i preordered it. I had this imaginary thought that smaller form phones are better, as ive got an Iphone 8 for work. But for personal use, the larger phones (even if they have bigger bezels) is just better suited for me.

Excellent point. That's why I bought my Galaxy s8 ears ago. Wanted to see if I would like to smaller form factor for one handed use. In reality though, even with smaller phones, you still wind up using two hands with them.

That's because when people talk about small phones. They're referring to when phones were 3.5 - 4..6 or so inches. Nowadays 5.5-- 5.8 inches is considered small, but are big when compared to phones from back in the day.

Had the Galaxy S10 for the past few weeks and just today received a Pixel XL3 from Amazon. Quite honestly the S10 even with three cameras can not compete with the Pixel 3's one camera. I love the stock "Google" software and it's a great experience. The S10 is a really nice phone don't get me wrong but the Pixel for me just does it a step better!

Once again, I couldn't have said it better myself!
