Would you give up 4G on your EVO to save $10/month?

I have a 4g tower less than 1/2 a mile from my house. I tether with 4g and the internet is quicker than using the comcast cable connection. With 4 laptops, 3 desktops, and other wifi using devices my home internet goes pretty slow. So no I would not give up 4g.

^what he sad ^

my down 4G speeds are crushing my comcast down speeds... I make the most of my 4G connection, & spare batteries are dirt cheap so I could care less about battery drain...

Yes, considering there is no 4g in my area.

There's no 4g in my area but I think I would keep it.
Its still cheaper than att and verizon,
And when 4g comes to my area which should be soon (orange county) I'm gnna be stoked to be able to have unlimited 4g data and be able to use data and talk like att can - although I never really talk and use data that much.

What I'm saying is yes because 4g data will be unlimited for 10$ more unlike the lte companies. It may be a little bit slower but I imagine it'll still be plenty fast in comparison.
What I want to know is how 4g drains your battery with a solid connection - does wimax drain faster than lte or what?

I think 4G is worth it even though I have it off the majority of the time. I noticed that it does not only drain my battery but it also seems to slow my phones response to a crawl. When 4G is disabled, my phone becomes responsive. I'm not sure if this is a known bug. If I know I'll be downloading a Podcast or some large files, I'll turn on 4G. I just wish it was more consistant.

i wanna pay the 10 bucks because i can travel anywhere( which i usually do ) and receive 4g. im really am tired of these threads about the 10 dollar fee, if you dont like it, theres a sumsung, lg, and sanyo waiting for you to change to, or a hero.

amen!!!!!!

Definitely!!! They can keep the 4G

...and that is why i have the evo and wont switch. dont like it, there are LG, sanyo, and samsung forums to help you out with the other phones with 3g only. i know there is a few people that dont like even paying for 3g when they have a 2g phone like the sanyo 200, but dont complain about not being to upgrade and keeping off the data... keep you outdated phone or switch to a prepaid option... thats why they are there.

"but i like a cool phone without the data features" thats great! but thats why they made the ipod touch... it has cool features without the data plan and you can call on it via skype if you like

"but i want an unlimited plan without data" sure, they have it for 200 dollars a month. "but thats not fair" well, its called progress... thats why insurance is higher for your classic cars because they arent as safe as the new ones

me personally, i drive a bmw and want all the performance and reliability. if i just want it because of the leather seats, cheaper cars have that option like a kia. but i hate the fact that im limited in speeds and would nominate a autobahn on i95 any-day. so that is why im taking the option to pay 500 dollars for a escort redline which is the most sensative radar detector that beats the valentine one. so, upgrades work for me!

THIS IS FOR THE PEOPLE WHO WANT 3G ONLY...

for us on 4g, this is evo 4g, vs att and verizon lte, and tmobile hspa+

the solution is plain and simple. if you want to give up that $10 fee. ATT and Tmo will be more then happy to give you less services for a higher fee. verizon will also be more then happy to screw you in the arse.

for those of us that do have it. download is better then comcast. granted it is spotty. but it's also new technology and will only get better as time goes on. just like ALL new techonologies.

my ***** would be about the time it takes to switch the thing on. and the fact that it has to be toggled back on everytime i move into 3g only coverage and back into 4g.

as for the fee. i'm only upset about the spending limit fee. WTF is that about. never had that untill i got the evo.

i've been with sprint 10 years now. and NO ONE has ever beaten there prices and amount of services. sprint also doesn't control our phones and tells us what we can and cannot do with our phones.(other then there personal bloatware). they don't strip us or our search engines and replace with bling. nor do they restrict our gps to carrier ONLY software. so either suck it up--or go elsewhere and pay more for less. and have the carrier control your phone.

verizon would really like the revenue since the cost of advertising has gone up. as per there remarks regarding the FCC investigation.

Can anyone confirm the quantity of people charged for 4g that don't have it compared to those that do? I am sure Sprint is 90 spot on charging the extra for 4g? Right?

Sprint is $80 plus tax with the 4G charge.

I got to use 4G for the first time in Baltimore the other day. It was rather anticlimatic.

Well, the problem is that Sprint will NEVER tell you the $10 surcharge is for 4g. Technically, 4g could go away, and as far as they're concerned, you still have to pay the surcharge because the Evo is a multimedia/network intensive phone that allows premium services like two-way video chat and blah blah blah...regardless of whether or not it's on 3g or 4g. That's how they get away with charging the premium to those of us who don't live in a 4g market.

We have a winner! The original question that was posed is invalid due to the quoted explanation.

Weak? Agreed but true nonetheless.

It's not invalid. OP doesn't equate the $10 with 4g, but it's no coincidence that the extra $10 is only added to 4g devices.

OP is asking if we'd let Sprint deny our 4g phones access to 4g signals to get that $10 fee removed.

well i cut my monthly bill down from $99+$10 to $69+$10. i switched from the simply everything plan with unlimited landline calls to the simply everything plan with the 450 minutes landline calls. the majority of my calls are mobile to mobile so why piss away $30+taxes every month?

Same here. I started on the $99 plan and bumped down to the $69 as soon as they implemented Any Mobile. It's even my sole line for personal as well as business. That's really an entirely different topic though. Some people talk so much that the $99 plan saves them money.
