Wow. How's Google going to beat new HD Kindle Fire at $159?

Don't think the Kindle Fire HD supports OTG, but then again the N7 doesn't natively either without rooting. There is however a great app that allows OTG support (albeit one-way) without rooting. Good luck with Amazon making that available in their "personalized" version of the Play Store. And where's Amazon OS's version of security that allows you to side-load apps? Don't hold your breath.

Don't really mind much that opting out of Amazon's home page ads (not ALL ads mind you) costs $15, that's the cost of doin' business, but the lack of GPS and other vital sensors is the deal breaker for me. I say this as true fan of Amazon and Amazon Prime. They've made tons of money from me (I've got well over 300 Amazon books now), but I just hate being married to one vendor's infrastructure, the their ultimate determination of what they'll allow me to do with a device I purchased, loss or not.

Nexus 7 supports otg with nexus media importer app NO ROOT

That's easy enough to install on the Nexus 7, so I don't see that as an advantage.

The Appstore is easy to install. But the books and movies is an advantage to the Fire HD. The Kindle app is very bare bones on Android and there isn't even an Android app for Amazon Videos. These are much richer experiences on the Fire HD.

Can anyone tell me if the Fire HD is a multi-tasking device? Because if it isn't, like the Fire and BN Nook, than its not even a close comparison. I like to play music in the background while I surf the web, read, ect.. I refuse to purchase a tablet that can't atleast compair to my smartphone

FYI: Just got my Fire HD. Connected my OTG cable and no power. Not a good sign. Trying to figure out how to ADB into it now...

FYI: The Nexus 7 does support OTG, it just doesn't support mounting drives.

I have both the Nexus 7 and the Fire HD. The Nexus 7 has a better feel to it. The Front of Fire HD looks cheap. The back is the most appealing part. That does change when you fire something up. It's got a really nice display. The lock ads are kind of cheesy. I can't say how it will perform.

It does mount on a PC as MTP vs Mass Storage, not a big surprise since it's based on 4.0.3.

I am a bit biased without OTG. :)

Doesn't stickmount actually mount USB OTG?

As to the fire, OTG may be fixed with CM10, it fixed the original Kindle fire.

Just a side note. I got an old Kindle fire for free and I am having SO much fun with it. Jelly bean runs SO DANG FAST on it. I thing JB really is magic, it makes old devices new again.

People also need to keep in mind that the Kindle Fire isn't a full Android tablet.

Until it's rooted & CM10'd ;) assuming it can be unlocked.

I'm using an original Fire running CM9 w/ ICS & it works great. The only things that're missing IMO are a better screen, Bluetooth & a front-facing camera all of which are on the new version.

That said, I'll still be picking up an N7 instead of the Fire 2 or Fire HD.
However, if it can run CM10 I will pick up the 8.9incher for 300$ unless Google releases one of that size before then.

The average consumer doesn't root.
