Just saw a video showing this, maybe I missed the boat but now you can choose whatever app you want for left and right sides.

Go to settings > lock screen and security > info and app shortcuts > app shortcuts

Pretty sweet I swapped my camera out for Google voice since I use camera quick launch from double click.

Ditto what that crazy old man that yells at kids to stay off his lawn said.

I guess it's to make us feel a tiny bit better about taking away the weather on lock screen with the MM update.

Please everyone, don't laugh at me for this question. I just put the Google Search Icon on the right side (but it isn't the mic icon, it's the "G" one for search), but when I'm on a LOCK screen, I can't access either the phone or Google. I have to first unlock the phone, which of course takes me to a regular home screen. What am I missing? My lock screen shows the time and date, and notifications, "Swipe screen to unlock", phone and Google shortcuts, and Samsung Pay. I can interface with the notifications, with Samsung Pay, but NOT Phone or Google shortcuts. What am I doing wrong??

Unless it's Samsung Pay, the icons are just shortcuts and it will ask you to unlock your phone before using it. Just use the shortcut, unlock phone, and it should launch right into the app you're trying to use the shortcut for.

You do need to unlock but if your using a fingerprint it's still very handy for a quick voice search.

Still confused. How can you use the Google search shortcut if you first have to unlock? I am set up to unlock with fingerprint or with pattern.

My scenario:
1. Screen is in AOD.
2. Click Home button. Screen now on LOCK SCREEN.
3. I can't access anything on lock screen but notifications and Samsung Pay. If I click/drag Phone Icon upwards, I get a portion of a white circle, a small rectangle inside the circle and an asterisk. If I drag the Google Search Icon upwards I get a gray circle. Clicking on either, instead of dragging, does nothing. Therefore it seems that I must unlock the phone, get to a home screen, to do anything.

On my wife's S7, rather than replacing the camera icon with Search, I tried to use her camera icon on the lock screen and it works. Just as if I doubled tapped the home button, on either phone, when in lockscreen mode.

EDIT 3/223: I found the reason it wasn't working for me. Explained in my post further down the thread.

Forgot about the camera; it's the only other thing I believe that'll open without requiring you to unlock the phone. In your case, you would slide your Google Search icon up, unlock with fingerprint, it should unlock right into Google Search.

That's what I can't get to work. I'll keep trying!

Just played with the settings on my phone, confirmed Google Search works without any problems. You just want to make sure you do NOT press the home button as you're using your fingerprint to unlock the phone. If you do that, what happens is the phone recognizes your command to go back to the home screen and it'll kick you back as soon as it unlocks. To put it simply what happens if you press the home button while scanning your fingerprint is:

Google Search -> fingerprint scan -> Google Search -> Home screen. What you'll see is Google pop up briefly and then go to home screen.

OK, I swiped the Google Search icon on the lock screen UP, used pattern unlock, and then Google Search came up as the phone unlocked. Having done all that, I'm not sure the effort is worth it. I can't seem to accomplish the unlock procedure using the fingerprint reader, if I have swiped up on the Google Search button. I've tried that numerous times and it won't work that way. I'd rather unlock using fingerprint and just get to a home screen and then get to GS from using "OK GOOGLE" or click the icon.

Being able to open voice commands without unlocking the phone and saying saying Ok google or pressing another button was what allowed me to keep the phone. I still think a long hold of the home button should initiate it just like iOS or Windows.

How does that square with others have said that we still need to unlock?

Just hit power on tight side or home button to wake device, swipe up on Google voice, place finger on hold key - do not press down, simply lay finger on button to be scanned.

This all be done in about 1-2 seconds max, and is way faster than pressing down waiting for siri.

Once phone unlocks you at the voice screen.

One of my posts indicated that I can't do as you suggest. If I swipe up on Google Search, the phone won't unlock with fingerprint. If I don't try to use the Search icon, my phone always easily unlocks with my fingerprint. I get what you are saying, but I'm saying my phone isn't operating as you expect.

The only way to use fingerprint to unlock after swiping up on Google icon is to hit BACK to get back to normal LOCK SCREEN. The fingerprint works. If I don't hit BACK, i can try fingerprints all day long and it wont unlock.

I just swapped the Google icon out. I tried the Voice Search instead. Same result. Can't unlock with fingerprint.

If, instead of swiping my fingerprint after swiping UP on Google Voice Search, I use pattern unlock, it unlocks and takes me to Voice Search. Too bad it doesn't work using the fingerprint.

Found the problem. I'm using an app to lock the screen, since I want to lock on my command, without setting up the POWER key for that function. I just tried locking with the POWER key instead of the app Ive been using and now I can unlock with fingerprint. Go figure!!

Anyone know of a locking app that works using the swipe-up-Google icon to search, using fingerprint to unlock?

Developer for the app I have is Katecca

if you want to unlock and launch google search why not just use unlock with trusted voice in google now settings? then all you have to do is say ok google and voila.. google search if there...
