WTH is Verizon up to?

Verizon just knows this is another way to gain more revenue for doing nothing. Not because of subsidizing the price because they went up to 299 with all the high end phones. Just seems like a slap in the face when you agree to bring them income for an additional 2years and you show your loyalty. While they slap you in the face with a fee to say thanks. Not to mention Verizon charges you for everything. Seriously.

I literally lol'd in the store when I saw the price they wanted for simple TPU cases. Like, $25? Seriously? What's it have, 50 cents worth of plastic and a dollar worth of molding/labor?

$299 isn't a lot when the device itself costs $650. The fee also isn't just Verizon; they were actually one of the last holdouts for this fee of the major carriers.

I also believe the fee is slightly less than some/most competitors.

It's all about the fees, and there's nothing you we can do about it. Verizon is the ultimate fee ripoff company (remember when they disabled GPS unless you paid?) but we all pay whatever. Sad but true. What are we gonna do, jump to <shudders> ATT? :(

lol VZW Navigator!

Yeah, and at one time you couldn't use/install Googlemaps on Verizon. I had Tmobile then, it's still probably the most reasonable company money-wise. And Verizon had that crummy app they made you use to transfer music, and that dogs8#t Get it Now thing. I'm surprised they don't try and charge you a dime every time you turn the thing on. Then when people tether without paying whatever that outrageous Hotspot fee is people go "how can you do that with a clear conscience"? I'll tell you how... spin around on this!

But you have to think that's not what Verizon is paying for them probably considering they buy them in bulk.. Also a lowly broke carrier like sprint can still pull off 200.00.. For example the new evo and the same phone we have is 199.99... Also as someone mentioned a .25 cent TPU case is $25.00.. Does anyone actually know how much it costs to send a text message yet they charge us 20.00 for unlimited.. I need to remember where I saw this but it barely costs them anything... lol I know its all about the money I just hate when they lie like "oh the phones cost soooooooo much its killing us.. We may have to shut the network down because we are barely making it." LMAO Rolls eyes.. Suuuurreee Verizon Suuuurree.. Just keep it real and say.. "In order to bring u the best network we are going to bend u over and rape your wallet for it.. Its that simple.. Get with it or get lost" Ok thats better verizon I understand but dont act like subsidizing phones is causing you to be broke.. Now sprint they are really broke... So I could see why they do it..

Subsidizing phones has a huge impact on their bottom lines, especially since smartphone market share is increasing at a rapid place.

Oh and sprint charges the fee too.

That's what I said. Sprint charges the fee but sprint also sales their phones for 200. And doesn't nickle and dime you. Heck Verizon charges for visual voicemail smh and even tried to charge us to pay our bill. They are just flat out greedy. Plus sprint is actually broke. Verizon is far from it.

Ah, may be that's why Sprint's network sucks. The ol' "You get what you pay for" axiom... :)

That's the whole point. You answered your own question so to speak. You said, "Sprint is actually broke." Don't you think that one of the reasons they might be broke as you say is exactly because they sell their phones for $200 and they don't nickel and dime you? Before you say no it's because they have an inferior network. There's a reason for that too, you need money to build that.

You spoke too soon. Good for Sprint!

Well, put it like that sarcastically, lol. Seriously, you can't tell people that they can invest in Verizon to offset the fee...fact is it may or MAY NOT offset the fee, but dividends are not definitive, nor are yields guaranteed. And there is that tax title that changes yearly as well. I just don't want people to go, "sweet, I can invest in Verizon to save money!" That is not correct sir. Again, no guarantees in the stock market.....hedge funds my man dictate a huge market manipulation whether people like to think it or not, and the sad thing is those guys manipulate those parameters without your knowledge.

Upgrade Fee

I mean cmon Verizon. They soaking us already with the monthly fees...so we gotta pay to upgrade? Maybe $5 or even $10 but 30??

OUTRAGEOUS!

Thoughts?

It's BS thats what it is .I got a phone due for an upgrade now but nothing I wana upgrade it to is available yet.
When there is they will be a added fee ,I dont know what am going to do maybe nothing as in not upgrading any more phones .
/rant
Im not paying an extra 30 dollars !
Who does vzw think it is !
What is that 30 bucks doing that they are Not suppose to already be doing ??
Does that mean VZW is really not providing customers with the level of service and support that customers have already paid to expect already ?
I'm not made outta money :-$
Iz got to think of a plan around this
/end rant

I have an idea. How about you save money until you can afford the new phone that you "wana" have and save for the $30 fee too. Sounds like a plan?

That's my whole argument. Did you read what I said previously? I said I rather them not act as if they are taking such a hit for subsidizing phones. Sprint is broke because of poor business decisions. For example investing in wimax to scrap it 3 years later. Spending money on silly things instead of improving your network. 3g speeds remain terrible. But if you didn't read what I said let me tell you. I said I rather them say if you want the best network your going to bend over backwards and pay for it. Don't act like your bottom line is so hurt when your up 17 percent over last year. You can't tell me they sat here and tried to charge us for paying our bill and it just wasent out of pure greed. That almost seems naive to me.

It has nothing to do with greed and everything to do with maximizing shareholder value. That is why corporations exist.
