Works for you where? How? Please elaborate.

My Xoom autocorrects as I type. I think it may do this in all applications that use the keyboard. If you type "tihs" it will autocorrect to "this", etc. Spell-check is integrated in the background.

Autocorrect and spell check are two different things. I don't believe any versions of the Android Gmail client have spell check, but the keyboard does autocorrect (at least the stock one for sure any many of the add on keyboards also). I can only speck for Gmail on Eclair, Froyo and Honeycomb. They may have added it to Gingerbread, but I haven't used that yet.
