Xoom-- why isn't Motorola talking?

And it's "highly unlikely" why?

So, dear expert, care to share why else MMI (a part of a currently strong sector making consistent gains) would shed 20% and $2B in market capital? What other news could possibly do that? I'm all ears.

If having the first Honeycomb tablet (industry leading) with comparable or way above the features of other tablets in the same demographic, months before the competition lowers stock, Its time to start buying. lol

I'm going to start charging for Investing 101, for Pete's sake.

Motorola's stock rose during CES and soon after because they won Best in Show at CES for the XOOM.

Post CES and XOOM announcement is where you pick the base line, not some arbitrary point.

I agree with you. I have not noticed anyone recommending MMI stock based on the Xoom. In fact the few articles I have read have been very critical of Moto's performance thus far. Far cry from the slight uptick in their stock right after CES.

That was the point of my post. Moto's dead silence on key issues related to their product has hurt them. And few seem to have confidence that when they do finally announce their product that it will be consumer friendly ie wifi day one, great partners, not forcing activation on 3G model..........

So, because Moto is not creating damn circus of BS prior to the launch of their product (meaning they are not Apple), there is some major lack of marketing skills and all these supposed issues?

You guys do realize that the only people that are wound up like this about the product, which hasn't released yet, are geeks like us on these sites that track every stupid rumor or tech glitch and then expect a response explaining it.

95% (likely far more than that) of the public just knows that Moto has some new tablet thing like the iPad coming out and it looked pretty cool in the Superbowl ad. They will then see the Sunday Best Buy ad in the paper that says to go check it out on the 24th, and will then see TV ads most likely starting that same day or through the coming week - and go buy what is out there if they want it.

They don't know or care about all the crap you guys are whining about, and will either buy it because it is cool and they have the money, or will not buy it because it isn't an iPad or they dont have the cash.

How you guys honestly think any of this other **** has any influence on the general public's perception of the Xoom is beyond me. They are not like us, and will not know crap about the Xoom until Motorola and Verizon actually start marketing and selling it.

It's like saying the fact that you are sleepy causes the sun to set. Your being irked with Motorola (and the insignificant minority in your camp) about one product just doesn't bear any relationship to the stock price.

Since you fancy yourself an expert, I'm sure you know that it's not "market capital" but "market capitalization".

What you're missing is that there was a great amount of bad news regarding the pricing of XOOM between mid January and mid February. Also, their was rampant unfair comparisons between the XOOM and the lowest cost iPad. Program storage size and SRAM size, along with all the other "goodies" were ignored by the press

It was so bad at one point that if you did a Google search on "Motorola XOOM" the page filled with negative press.

The analysts got a hold of this (that's the job, to be on top of these things) and reported it to investors. I personally subscribe to two reports that covered the bad press. The stock decayed a little more with each day of this debacle, until it had lost 20% of it's value.

Then the Mobile World Conference hit and Motorola started talking again. The stock stopped it's free fall and began to recover.

What we are talking about.... well, what I am talking about when I say Motorola screwed up is the fact that they did not do any damage control during the bad news downward trend.

The latest analyst reports are more positive, but still question what happened. The leadership of the company was enjoying their honeymoon after the split. Their bizarre silence has definitely ended that honeymoon with some analysts.

Oh for Pete's sake. Yes, often referred to as "market cap" and "market capital" as well.

I have thirty years in the semiconductor industry and an MBA from LSE. This ain't my first rodeo.

I'm more than happy to discuss topics like this with anyone, but I must say I'm getting tired this. When it gets down to this level, well... it's ridiculous.

Guys, I'm done.

The verizon iphone wasn't announced officially till AFTER CES, it still had major impact on motorola because Verizons best selling handsets were Motorolas. Please show me where Motorola dropped 20% anywhere? also, any dip in market capital was mostly because of the split of the company. Majority of investors, even though they saw it coming, were still hesitant to keep their money in the mix. and seriously, if you think lack of information about a tablet that hasn't released can drop a companys market captial 20% (i still dont believe ive seen a 20% drop anywhere, please show me evidence) then company has even more to worry about. because that product in itself wont come close to producing 20% market capital in its entirely, ever.

May I also add that there has been no information to suggest that the intended launch of the Xoom has been borked in any way shape or form, which is far as I'm concerned, would be the only thing regarding a release date that could cause any stock harm.
