Xoom Wish List

I agree. I think the display is great, and I've seen it next to my wife's iPad. Something must be wrong for those complaining about screen quality.

I don't think it's the screen quality per se, the screen on the xoom lacks contrast. Looks very washed out especially on dark/black background. I put my ipad and xoom next to each other, and I still cringe how sucky the the xoom screen is. While the screen on the ipad is not the best, compare to the xoom its still better.

If we can get some kind of video adjustment app (contrast, gamma, etc.), then it might make it better, but I'm not holding my breath. As of right now, my xoom wont be a keeper in my book. Samsung might be the best bet, and I'm not worried about software update, as I can always root/flashed the device.

Played with a Xoom at BB yesterday over lunch. I wouldn?t say the screen lacks contrast as much as it could just use a little more brightness. Black levels seemed great, but in an average lit store I found myself trying to bump up the brightness only to realize it was already maxed.

That and it could really benefit from a matte screen. The deep blacks are hampered by the reflections off the screen.

Is your xoom rooted? and what app are you using to tether? Interested in doing this with my rooted incredible on cm7..

Doesn't CM7 have the asop hotsots feature in the build yet? I am running omfgb 1.1.1 on my rooted incredible and using the built in without issue to a non rooted Xoom.

The display seriously sucks compared to apple one. Needs more contrast and brightness. Other than that I love it.

I think the brightness is just fine. The issue is that the automatic mode is a bit too dark. User should have some type of bias control on the automatic mode. Contrast seems OK to me, although it is not the best I have seen. I also agree with some of the other comments (except my GPS works fine)....

So

1) Add USB Mass Storage Mode!!!! (At least this can be done NOW via software)
2) Fix auto brightness to be brighter (another software fix)
3) Easier to operate volume controls
4) IR port for sure- perfect device for home remote via IR
5) The headset jack is in the wrong place. Anywhere would be better than the top- sides, bottom, corner, something.
6) Find a way to do USB charging, even if it requires an adapter for fast charging and trickle charge when connected to a computer.

Of course- more tablet apps, better video acceleration (seems a bit stuttery now, I hope this is addressed with updates), get SD card working.

Like my Xoom a bunch,

I am in medicine and want Epocrates to get compatability. Freezes on launch.

Shot some video and getting stuttering in the video capture.

Mass storage access without the special desktop app work around. (Mac)

Very happy with Citrix Receiver and ability to access electronic Med records for work

Android 3.0 is really tablet 1.0 so I am willing to give it some time. I have an ipad to compare to so doing some side by side eval.

Hope for more tab apps soon

I've been using the PlayOn app for viewing Hulu, NetFlix and other TV on my Xoom (and DroidX for that matter). Yes, I have to have the app installed on my computer at home, but it works great! Oh, and until the whole Android platform works out the DRM issue, probably the only way I'm getting it for a while.

No real issues otherwise, except for the occasional app just disappearing or the task switcher showing blank.

I'm waiting for a Google Talk to be able to make VoIP calls to any phone (like I can from my computer) and a real Google Voice app to be released.

The regular sync was working with my Microsoft Exchange server just fine, but Touchdown is actually really great and worth the $19.95.

The OverDrive Media app is also great because if your local library is part of the system, you can checkout eBooks, and other items directly to your Xoom (without having to hack and remove the DRM).

Quite happy overall.

I don't own a Xoom (yet) and the following are some of the primary reasons why:

1. Charge via microUSB port. I detest the fragile-feeling AC adapter plug on the Xoom. Even if it takes hours, I'dl like to use one of the dozens of microUSB cables I have laying around to charge the Xoom. Or they could do like B&N did with the Nook Color and use a modified microUSB connector that will unofficially charge at a slower rate with regular charger. I think HTC's upcoming Flyer will charge via microUSB as well.

2. Relocate the power button on the back. Or at the very least, make it a bit sturdier feeling

3. Reduce the unit's weight & thickness a tiny bit without compromising battery life or losing the memory card slot.

4. I'd love to see an IPS screen with iPad-level brightness. Screen is kinda disappointing when seen next to an iPad like how my local BB has its displays set up.

5. Netflix Watch Instantly!! Since I assume this is a hardware limitation...Nvidia needs to get hoppin' to get the Tegra2 Netflix certified ASAP!

6. iPad-style oleophobic coating to minimize the fingerprints smudges

7. A full-size USB port w/ host capability would be nice but is by no means essential

Otherwise, it's already bordering on awesome. Everything else (Honeycomb growing pains, lack of microSD slot) can and hopefully will be fixed eventually via software.

Like I said its not a hardware limitation. If it was then why is the Xoom mentioned in the "allowed list" in the leaked netflix code?? It mentions the Ipad,Iphone,Android and Xoom as specific devices.

xoom getting netflix! pulled from Netflix app. - xda-developers

The power button is already on the back. And to me it feels fine.

Might just be the way they have it set up. Turn off the autobright setting, and the Xoom is plenty bright.

That is not a limitation of the Xoom or a design issue nor a hardware limitation- it is all in Netflix's court. If any Android 3 tablet is to get Netflix streaming, the Xoom will be first.

6. iPad-style oleophobic coating to minimize the fingerprints smudges

That would be nice, because it is a fingerprint magnet.

7. A full-size USB port w/ host capability would be nice but is by no means essential

Also nice... although I would gladly trade it for USB charging and USB mass storage mode on the exiting port.

I agree with the weight of the Xoom...I would love for it to be a tad bit lighter. And it is definitely a fingerprint magnet. :)

Otherwise, I'm perfectly happy with my Xoom. My brother in law is dying to compare it to his iPad, so I'll be showing it off tomorrow. Do you think I can convince him to buy one?

Display quality

a question here: I guess auto brightness issue could be fixed, but Is it possible (and I mean technically) that the contrast & color on xoom get better with a software update, or is it a pure hardware issue?

Color and contrast are ultimately hardware limitations. Unless the calibration is just bad...but I suspect they just didn't get as good of glass as they wanted (not sure if they went cheap on purpose, or just didn't get what they'd hopef for).

1. Make it lighter. I'm not complaining now but still, lighter would be nice.
2. Do not make it thinner. Here is why: I want a tablet, not a piece of paper to break in half accidentally.
3. Move speakers to the side BUT do not touch the power button because the current location of power button is perfect.
4. Full size SD card anyone?

My wish list:
Fix bug issues w/ Launcher force closing
Fix bug issues w/ Browser freezing
Tablet category in Market
Honeycomb apps to catch up

Aside from the obvious none working SD card and lack of tablet specific apps.

The Youtube issue hasn't happened to me hardly at all in the past week or so.
The screen responsiveness, hopefully software more than hardware.
Also responsiveness when in portrait vs landscape, again software.

I'd have to list the next few things for Xoom 2, as they are hardware items.

Better screen, at least IPS or better.
Power plug, make the damn thing at least fit and seat to the device. It's way to flimsy and looks/feels cheap.
Build better volume buttons/rocker. Annoying to say the least. Could be so much better designed.

Pretty much hardware. They chose a rather cheap screen vs an IPS or better. Really sad on such a quality built device they skimped on the screen. WXGA LCD screens are basically run of the mill LCD's just like any TFT or similar PC monitor you can buy for $150 bucks in a 25" screen.

I wish you could delete emails straight from the notification bar popup. Like I can do on my webos phone.

Everything from netflix mailing notifications to types of emails that are good to get, but I don't actually need to read them. As such, I'd rather not have to open the email program just to delete them.

I love my WiFi XOOM but. I would really like a way to turn on WiFi with one touch on the home page! Is there a way?
