Your real world experiences with the N4

I have Google Currents disabled so far. That seems to help with battery life.

This and Google Now. I don't need Google to tell me the weather or what restaurants are in my area. Sometimes I am at home and it's telling me I am 10 minutes from home. Maybe I live somewhere else in a parallel city.

I couldn't disable those apps. I use them everyday all day long.

I've had my phone for a couple of months now and I actually like it more now than before. My expectations were a little high coming from and iPhone 4 so I was initially unhappy with the battery life and having to use the screen on such a low setting to preserve the battery. I'm just used to taking a few extra steps now so it doesn't bother me as much. Its not like the phone drains in half a day but I'm was a heavy user and getting through the day on one charge was a bit challenging.

Regarding the battery, I tend to use my phone a little less now because of the battery. I used to be on my iPhone all of the time but since the Nexus drains a bit quicker I tend to use it less. Which I guess is a real world plus..
It does still suck to be shown this really nice screen in store and online, but then reality keeps you from using it anywhere over half brightness. I'm used to switching it back and forth as needed now..
I also tend to plug in the phone at any chance I get just in case (in the car, at work).

I am also in a poor service area so MMS don't always send if I don't have a 3G connection at least. But I suppose that's not the phones fault.

What I really dislike is having to use the hybrid case. The phone is pretty sensitive but at the same time I think its really nice looking.. My case reflects light even though its clear so you never see the little flecks on the back which is disappointing. However, I'm sure the case has saved my phone at least 3 times so far from accidental drops.

It seems like I'm being a bit sarcastic here but I really DO like this phone. I think it does alot of things really well and I enjoy it more than I did my iPhone, the time I get to enjoy it is just a little bit less though.

I was seriously considering leaving android this year because I was fed up with how OEM's implement the OS. The nexus 4 is what kept me. My next device will be the nexus 5 unless moto X impresses the hell out of me

Well it arrived less than 24 hours after placing the order - good show Google!

So far impressions are favourable. Even though I have the Nexus 7 already, getting used to the vanilla android on a phone is going to take a little bit of getting used to, especially after having the Sense UI on my HTC - there really is nothing else that pulls all of my social media into my contact lists quite like it. That said, photographs are now slowly being imported into the contacts list from Facebook (does anyone actually use Google+?) so the list isn't looking quite so bare. This is definitely a handset that requires time investing in personalising it more than an HTC/Samsung unit but I've a feeling that is going to be half the fun and the rewards will potentially be more as well.

So far my storage concerns have been unfounded - my HTC was obviously hiding some unknown data on the SD card as looking at the memory on the N4 I still have over 9GB left to play with!

After a couple of weeks, I love mine. Replaced a Samsung, and this phone seems as if it is on steroids compared to the Samsung

Having the Nexus makes me wonder why other devices have capacitive and hardware buttons on the front. The on screen buttons work do well.

Enjoy it! I just got mine this past Friday. I can easily say without a doubt the best android phone I've had. Phone design is amazing and the os is super smooth. It really is a steal for only 350.

I'm with you. It is hard to believe that the phone only costs $350. It is definitely a steal.

It costs $350 because they make no profit from it. Might even be losing a few dollars on each one.

Got mine around 2 weeks ago so still testing it out.

I like my phones fast and efficient... so I don't carry a ton of apps (not even 3 pages of apps) nor do i store a ton of media. As such this is the perfect phone for me. Enough room and absolutely BLAZING fast with no stutter or lag whatsoever.

My biggest gripe is that so far T-Mo in NYC blows. It really blows. I've heard AT&T is no better. I actually miss the speeds and consistency I got from Sprint before.

So if you like to run things slim and live in a fast T-Mo area, you really can't go wrong w/ this phone.

I'm curious as to why you left Sprint. I think about going back to them all the time because the unlimited LTE is very attractive.

This begs the question, if it's the lack of LTE that was making 16 GB too small for storage, why would you still need a 32GB phone of the LTE variety (GS4)?

I tend to think that those who say LTE is that much better than HSPA+ probably have not seen the true HSPA+ 42 speeds (or markets). I am in one and on T-mobile, my Nexus 4 averages 12-14 mbps, and it's not that uncommon for my speed to be range high 20s to low 30s (26+ mbps) - which is pretty much exactly comparable to LTE speeds (both average and highest experienced). LTE is certainly potentially capable of higher speeds than HSPA+ 42, but right now, HSPA+ 42 is quite comparable to LTE.

On the download side, HSPA+ "can" be comparable to LTE. But LTE absolutely smokes HSPA+ on the upload side. So uploading pics and videos to the cloud over LTE is way faster than on HSPA+. It's not even a contest.

I just jumped back on the Nexus bandwagon. The battery on my iP4 went south and I didn't want to re-up my AT&T contract. I bought a Nexus One prior to my iP4, but got frustrated with 2.3.x after a few months and put it on the shelf. I bought a Nexus 7 when they came out and have been very happy with 4.2.x and felt comfortable going back to an Android phone.

It is taking a while to get used to the large size and plastic feel of the N4, but it is growing on me. The 4.2.2 software is light years ahead of 2.3.x on my N1 (e.g. ease of setup, usability, stability, etc.). Google has done a great job of redesigning the app store and the Android ecosystem in general.

I'm glad that Google has stuck with the Nexus line and I hope that more carriers add devices with the "pure Android experience" to their line-up. Actually I hope that the whole "over-priced, but discounted w/ contract" mobile phone paradigm eventually dies all together here in the US.

Both the front and back are made out of glass. How do you get a plastic feel out of it?

It's a great phone, both hardware and software wise... And the only reason I'm even on Android at this point.

Plastic might be the wrong word, but out of the box the N4 felt light and unsubstantial to me.

I think there's plastic on the sides, near the power and volume buttons. If you hold your phone by the sides, you'll probably only feel the plastic, not the glass.

Still, do you prefer phones with a decent amount of heft to them? Could you give an example of a phone that felt better in your hands?

I am blown away by the phone, looks feel, responsiveness and so was eager to see how it recorded video at a show I'm in, such a let down I didn't think modern phones crapped out like this when recording loud audio anymore. Looking around its a known issue about the gain the the mic being to high or sensitive and affects VoIP calls too. Just had it a day and was loving it till this, if its a software issue I really hope it can be fixed in an update. Everyone uses there phones at concerts to do a little recording. Normal videos in the home seem quite thin and tinny too, not moaning I know it's not got the biggest of speakers , just expected more :-(
