Your Way to Update to MB1

Meyerweb, I just read your link and I'm new to ES Explorer (used to use Root Explorer), and by changing permissions back to rw-r-r, do you mean in ES settings/root settings/mount file system?
Do you mean the box has to be unchecked before you reboot? In root explorer there was a button at the top that you changed the status on. I'm not sure if I understand ES correctly, cause I didn't see the same type of button in it. To confirm, changing back to rw-r-r is a setting in ES and not the actual features file right?

I see that EZ already answered (thank you), but for others reading this, you can use any application that allows you to change the permissions. So if Root Explorer does that, you don't need ES.

Yes it does but Root Explorer I found needed extra steps to edit the features file....I had to edit a copy and then copy paste it over the existing file when ES let me edit on the real file. That's why I switched.

I installed the zip file to my SD card and when I tried to install, I received a message that installation was aborted. Any suggestions?

When you have issues such as this please state which method you are trying (post 1 or 2) and if you are rooted or not.

Look at the following thread and if you still have questions come back here and ask. But I think if you read this you will be fine.

How to Flash In Custom Recovery

So that did clear up some confusion, thank you. The only other question I have is that there is no option for ("wipe dalvik cache" and then confirm by selecting yes), only the wipe cache partition is available. (And the factory reset, which don't need to do since I am just rooted, not anything customized.)

If you are on cwm, I think the dalvik cache is in the advanced menu. It's been awhile since I've been on cwm but it's there somewhere.

Dude your on stock recovery... you can't flash anything there....

I guess I am lost with how I did this (http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...e-updated-how-root-your-sprint-galaxy-s3.html) and have the stock recovery installed.... I know that I have root access on my phone still as I have tethering and a few other root needed programs running and shows when they have been authorized to run. Could I have missed a step in my initial root process or ran an update on my phone that wiped the custom recovery, but kept me rooted?

You could have used a different supperuser file than what was provided with the guide. The galaxy s3 will reload your stock recovery if you don't remove two files. The team epic file removes the two files so recovery will stick.

Gotcha.... So am I in like a half way rooted sense right now and should I go through steps again to be in a proper rooted state?

you will pretty much have to start from scratch... you will have to flash recovery in Odin and then the team epic file in recovery...

Followed your instructions to the T for post #2. Used CWM. Wiped the cache, then Delvik cache, then ran the firmware, then the rom. After the boot, the phone's settings "app" is showing as not installed on phone. Any suggestions please?

-Please Disregard- Rebooted twice...kinks worked out. Everything intact. You are phenominal. Thank you for this service and threads. I spent many hours looking and being patient trying to find exactly this. For those of us who are still getting our feet wet.....we wish there were more individuals like you.

Not quite sure what you're talking about. Are you saying when you open the dialer and tap on the menu button you don't get a settings menu?

Yea, I went to app drawer looking for settings it wasn't there. I also tried looking from ADW settings menu, and settings wasn't available. But upon a couple reboots It was good to go. Thank you for your fast replies and due diligence.

If you slide the notification shade down, do you have the gear (settings) icon in the top right corner?

In the app drawer, make sure you're not looking at only downloaded apps. What happens if you switch back to Touchwiz for the launcher?

I followed this procedure, and still have settings in the app drawer.

[NOTE]This method will bring you up to date no matter which version you are on.[/NOTE]

If you are Rooted and have custom recovery this is for you.

This is the Full Stock MB1 Pre-Rooted in a zip file. You would flash these files like you would any other ROM. The Rom and firmware (radio) are 2 separate zips.
Please thank freeza in his xda thread.

1. Download files and put them on you external or internal sdcard.
2. Wipe cache, wipe dalvik, factory Reset
3. Flash Firmware
4. Flash ROM
5. Reboot

Odexed MB1 Zip

Deodexed MB1 Zip

MB1 Firmware/Baseband/Modem zip

I did the dirty flash (did not do factory reset) and lost root. When I try to update SuperSU binary, installation fails. Any idea what could've happened?

EDIT: I just restored a TWRP backup and I'm back on rooted LJ7. I guess I don't really need to update to MB1.
