Your way to update to MD4

Go to the first page of this thread. Go post #2, it covers how to update if rooted. That is assuming you have either TWRP or CWM recoveries. If rooted with stock recovery see post #1

No offense, but you kinda didn't answer my question..

No offense...but did you read what I mentioned along with the other posts in this thread? If you have done so, then your question should be answered.

Just ran through all 9 pages and did a post search under your name. Nowhere did you mention if updating OTA will break root. My apologies, but your are not very helpful. So instead I will do manual update. Have a great day.

I didn't say anything about looking for my name. I said read ALL posts!! Posts 1 & 2 should have answered your questions about the update.

To add on to what seanski said, the OTA will not, in general, work on a rooted device at all. Following the procedure in this thread is your best way to get the update.

I have updated manually to MD4. Can I remove the tab that now sits on the left side of my screen? How can I do that? I think multi-windows is a great function but would sacrifice it to get rid of that annoying tab...

so easy. how did you learn this???

Speaking for myself, when I'm wanting to learn something about a new feature, I'll try to google it, in this case "MultiView" and learn all kinds of neat tips and tricks. I was like a kid in a candy store when I first got my GS3 after coming from the EVO. I know the term is thrown around a lot, but "search really is your friend" (I don't mean that in any way sarcastically) :)

Just hold the back button.

That gets rid of the tab. Holding the back button again brings the tab back. If you want to turn off multi-view completely, there's a check box in the Display settings.

Hello total noob here. What happens if i update my rooted samsung s3 to latest MD4 OTA? A friend of mine rooted my sprint phone so i have no knowledge on what to do and he's on a month vacation.

Ok 1st scenario...if you are rooted with stock recovery and accept the update you can lose root.

2nd scenario...if you TWRP or CWM recovery the OTA should fail.

Refer to the first two posts in this thread for how to do the update.

Definitely follow the second post...it's a fail safe way to "update" to the latest (even though it's a full ROM install). I've got CWM as well and am one of the lucky ones who can download the OTA, flash it manually, and keep root and recovery. It might work for you, but the second method will DEFINITELY get you where you want to go.

lI want to install this MD4 version but not sure if I should use option 1 or 2 or if option 2 will work. So I stock rooted my phone with CWM back in January and it worked succesfully as I really wanted the WiFi hotspot but it was flaky.

I now downloaded Root Checker Basic and it says Superuser denied. I check about phone and it says modified. I followed these steps to root my phone again to make sure and everything worked great. I can boot into recovery. But when I use Root Checker Basic again after following the above guide to root it still says Superuser access denied.

I am concerned. Should I still proceed with Post #2 of this thread to flash to MD4?

Thanks in advance guys.

I'm not sure what's happened. What process did you use to root?

Part of the answer to your question is easy. If you have CWM Recovery installed, the process in post #1 won't work. I'm not sure if #2 will or not. Try this, first:

See if you can install SuperSU: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...mV1LmNoYWluZmlyZS5zdXBlcnN1Il0&token=gyX1M8jz. If this will install it will give you superuser access, and Root Checker should then be OK. If that works, then use post #2. If that doesn't work, I think you're going to need to re-root, but before you do, let me know how you rooted the first time.

I downloaded SuperSU and then tried installing Normal and CWM and both say SuperUser denied and installation failed.

The first time I rooted my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 I used Odin 3.07 CWM Recovery TeamEpic Root From Recovery v5 and it worked. I was able to install and sometimes get working TrevE MOD WifiTether. It didnt work like Sprint Hotspot does on my rooted HTC EVO 4G so I stopped using it. I then got an OTA update at some point back in January or February and ever since then I lost SuperUser access.

I just today rooted again and everything worked properly using THIS ROOT METHOD which was suggested at the top of Page 2 of this thread but still dont have SuperUser Access. I dont know where to go from here to update my phone or get rooted again. I am on build # JZO54K.L710VPBMB1 and Device Status says Modified.

So weird, i was able to get Root Checker Basis to say Successfully Rooted by going to Application Manager, Force Stopping SuperUser, hitting Clear Data then running Root Checker Basic and it said Successful. I guess Im ready to proceed with Post #2 in this thread. SuperSU now installed successfully. Crazy

UPDATE:

I installed the firmware and ROM and everything worked great. Thanks!

Sorry
Im fairly new to rooting, and installing updates.
My husband's SG3 recieved his update two weeks ago.
We are both with sprint and I haven't got mines yet. I wanted to know if I am tired of waiting for sprint, is is possible for me to install it on my own?
And if so can I download the zipped file straight to my external sd card from my SG3 phone. I got tired of the run around, and lies that sprint
Keeps on telling me. First they said that my husbands phone probably got updated first because he had his phone first. Then I had to inform them that we got the phones on the same day Feb 27th of this year, and that my phone was actually activated first. Then they told me I had to go to samsung for the update. Then samsung told me that it was a sprint issue. So here I am tired of the bull and would rather do it myself.
If possible could you please email me step by step on how to do it...only if you dont mind. Again I am new to this whole thing and appreciate people like you guys on these websites. You give consumers some of their power back by letting companies know that we deserve what we pay for, and if we dont get it we'll find a way around them. I love learning how to do new things with my phones and such.
