I just don't understand why people are still waiting for the OTA...and then complaining because they haven't yet received it. The OTA is scheduled to be released OVER A FEW WEEKS! Skunkape60 has gone through a lot of trouble to supply us all with the official manual update method, and others have even added a video that will walk us through it. It's easy to do, and just about all issues we might have are addressed in this forum. So why is ANYONE still complaining about not yet receiving the OTA?! Android people are action people. So stop complaining and take advantage of the opportunity to get what you want without the waiting (and complaining). That's the whole purpose of these forums: getting the help we may need and/or helping others. When the help is there, use it!

I can understand why many people would like to get the ota. However the ota doesn't guarantee success any more than these methods. The files in this thread can be downloaded while on a good wifi connection at a convenient time for the user, Downloading on wifi greatly diminishes errors such as lost packets and corrupted data.

Recieving the update via OTA is more likely to have lost packets and corrupt data. You will not be in control over the connection you will have when the ota is pushed. I can only imagine the errors in the files that were downloaded in an area where the 3g connection is poor.

Sorry if this already has been posted, but is there a way to delay the OTA download until you are able to connect to your wifi?
Never mind, just did the upload zip # 2. Worked great.

Went ahead with option #2 and all appears to have gone well. TBH, I don't see any real difference between JB and the previous version. I also don't see the Google Now that people have mentioned. Phone is showing the following:

Android Version: 4.1.1
Baseband Version: L710VPBLJ7
Kernel Version: 3.031-329968

Does the above look correct then?

Oh, and thanks muchly for this Skunkape :)

I wonder what happens if you kill Google Framework Services while your phone is in the process of downloading the update OTA. I think I'll just wait it out at this point. My 3g speed where I live is a blistering 140 - 180 kbps  so a 250 mb update could take a LONG time.

jUST WANTED TO SAY THANKS, All went perfect. I was completely stock, and I followed your directions, worked flawlessly.

Thank you Skunkape60 for all your work! I did update #2, gs3 fully stock, downloaded the file to my Ext SD card, moved it to the root directory and follow your directions. Worked like a charm. Great Post!!!!

haven't updated my phone yet, but, quick question. I've noticed on many screenshots, the notification bar being gray, not black, am I seeing things or is that how it's suppose to be? and if so, let's find the person who made that call and shoot him/her, it looks UGLY. I don't see that on the international version nor the Tmobile version, WTH? What else did Samsung/Sprint screw up and make ugly/worst, then what we had before the JB update?

It'll be black. showing gray on the posted screen shots may just be a lighting issue or something. Mine is black.

Quick and easy. Thanks for the update info. Worked like a charm with no issues to report

Here is a screen shot of mine. It may be a slight bit different. But it's pretty close to black.

my point made, that's gray, over at XDA people have made mention of the notification bar being gray(ish) and not the solid black we had before the update. for the life in me I can't understand some of these GUI decisions made on Android, or I'm guessing Samsung here. I'm going to email Sammy and ask about this..

I hope they delete your email, I kind of like it. :p
