Possible new update broke this ,can try uninstall the update and don't let it update see if it works ?Thanks for trying...resetting the app preferences did not help with this...just now asking for permission to do everything, but I can deal with that.
The only difference between my phone that doesn't go the YouTube in that manner vs. the one in my household that does...
The YouTube app on my phone is a new version, updated yesterday to 14.47.42
The one that DOES go to the YouTube is 14.46.53 and has not updated the past couple of days and it is not listed as having an update available.
So maybe it was an update that did whatever it is that it did.

Long press the YouTube app >tap info >upper right corner 3 dots uninstall updateIs there a way to just uninstall that update? I remember seeing something somewhere that you can uninstall all of them...I think it was under DISABLE...
EDIT= Since I cleared preferences, I no longer get suggestions in the TO field when I send emails in Gmail. Any idea how to get that back?
I'm not sure in the gmail just seen your edit

Yeah do that as it will put it on previous version it shouldn't update unless you have it set to automatically in play store which in that case disable temporarily. On the YouTube app, it will uninstall all updates and revert to factory setting. Do I want to do that? Unless I immediately click OFF on auto updates, won't it automatically download all the updates.

Your welcome!OK...I give up. Uninstalled, rebooted, unchecked auto update...it went back a few versions. Same thing. Actually, a few links that worked before did not work this time. I have no clue. Posted on a couple of Google forums, along with several others. I'll deal with just searching thru Chrome. That still works. Appreciate your help.
