Doing it for VR makes sense. It's good that more companies are letting users set the screen resolution nowadays. Now hopefully they don't all go with these narrow aspect ratios from here on out.
I am at max resolution since the battery life has been so good. I might drop down if that changes.I'm using WQHD+ resolution and pretty much everything turned on and am seeing 6 hours SoT. I have no need to go to 1080p or 720p.
I usually leave mine on the default too.
My eyesight isn't the best so the difference between that and the higher resolution is lost on me.
I agree with you for the most part Extremvl but my sensibilities lean more towards the practical, however I'd rather have a flagship like the S8 that gives me more options to tweak to my usage than anything else.![]()
My vision is very good so I instantly can see the difference. I put mine on WQHD+.
I can't speak for the other guy, but I can see a difference between them. Not as stark a difference as 720 to 1080, but when viewing high res images the extra crispness is apparent. Text also looks a bit better. I notice enough of a difference that I want to keep it in QHD. Especially since my battery life doesn't seem to be effected much. I can easily get 6hrs or more SoT. 1080p might give me a bit more but I'm very satisfied with what I get nowBetween 1080p and 1440p?
I like the reviews that state they can tell a difference between 1440p and 1080p on a smartphone. The phone being AMOLED makes the biggest difference.
Yup! AMOLED vs LCD is the biggest factor for me too, aside from size (and now aspect ratio) of course.
I wish more flagship phone makers would have the guts to ship lower res displays in favor of battery life gains!
If you want a 720p display, then why do you buy Samsung?+1 to this!
The first thing I would have done if I got the Galaxy S8 would be to drop the resolution to 720p and ask a family member on a random day to bump the resolution to QHD+ (without me knowing) and see if I notice the difference. If I do, it stays at 1440p otherwise it goes back to 720p
I see this as more of a game than anything else. Just for fun to see if my eyes are sharp enough.
I'm leaving mine on the default. I cannot perceive a difference between 1080p and 1440p.
