Verizon Galaxy S8 YUP I'm actually rockin 720p resolution on my S8!

Doing it for VR makes sense. It's good that more companies are letting users set the screen resolution nowadays. Now hopefully they don't all go with these narrow aspect ratios from here on out.

I completely agree. Since VR magnifies what's on the phones screen, it would make sense to use a higher resolution to get that detail. I also hope narrow aspect ratios will not be the norm.

Where I am now. I suppose I do have to monitor a day using higher resolutions lol I appreciate all of the feedback. The general sense I'm getting is that battery life is really good overall and that's a win for us and Samsung.

I usually leave mine on the default too.

My eyesight isn't the best so the difference between that and the higher resolution is lost on me.

Same here (on my S7 mind you but still). If I'm not gonna notice a difference, I want to keep the battery for other things.

I agree with you for the most part Extremvl but my sensibilities lean more towards the practical, however I'd rather have a flagship like the S8 that gives me more options to tweak to my usage than anything else. ✌️

I understand what you're saying and having more options is better, for me I like to leave everything on and maxed out (besides brightness because it hurts my eyes).

Typically I put my phone on the charger 30 minutes before I get off work and my battery is back to 100% when I'm walking out the door.

The fast charging ability means I can even charge my phone while driving and it will probably be at 100% by the time I get home from work since my drive is about 20 - 25 minutes. When I leave work I'm typically around 70% or so if I didn't charge it before leaving.

The amazing battery life on the S8+ allows me to not have to worry about lowering the screen resolution or downgrading/turning off other features. I don't mind charging my battery for 30 minutes plus they created fast charging for a reason so I may as well use it for it's intended purpose...

Though I can not tell a difference with 1080p/1440p on a small display, I can tell with 720p. IMO it looks too coarse.

Between 1080p and 1440p?
I can't speak for the other guy, but I can see a difference between them. Not as stark a difference as 720 to 1080, but when viewing high res images the extra crispness is apparent. Text also looks a bit better. I notice enough of a difference that I want to keep it in QHD. Especially since my battery life doesn't seem to be effected much. I can easily get 6hrs or more SoT. 1080p might give me a bit more but I'm very satisfied with what I get now

I like the reviews that state they can tell a difference between 1440p and 1080p on a smartphone. The phone being AMOLED makes the biggest difference.

+1 to this!

The first thing I would have done if I got the Galaxy S8 would be to drop the resolution to 720p and ask a family member on a random day to bump the resolution to QHD+ (without me knowing) and see if I notice the difference. If I do, it stays at 1440p otherwise it goes back to 720p :)

I see this as more of a game than anything else. Just for fun to see if my eyes are sharp enough.

Yup! AMOLED vs LCD is the biggest factor for me too, aside from size (and now aspect ratio) of course.

I wish more flagship phone makers would have the guts to ship lower res displays in favor of battery life gains!

That would mean dropping a standard for which phones are compared. The entire industry would be turned on its head.

If you want a 720p display, then why do you buy Samsung?

I'm leaving mine on the default. I cannot perceive a difference between 1080p and 1440p.

you're not trying hard enough lol

honestly it's not something to easily notice, if you Google a 4k image on a 2k device and a 1080p device and do a side by side you could see the difference very clearly, but if you toggle off and on with the same device and go to the same pic you'll never notice the differences

I just love having the max amount of pixels active for viewing at all time :3

Honestly don't know if it makes a difference but I use the max resolution. Not any huge impact on my battery life, so why not?
