What happened to the z4root from the market its not there anymore? Any know where I can get it?

Hmmmm…I just noticed it was gone as well. I wonder if Google pulled it, they don’t particularly like those “one click root” apps. I sure hope that’s not the case…

Anyway you can get the apk from xda. You’ll probably need an account to open the attachment, though.

Wow good to know it's not there anymore. Ill have to be sure to make a backup of the apk in a few places.

EDIT* There are still tons of versions of it on 4shared for those that really want to have it.

Why wouldn't someone just use this type of app vs. doing it the way listed in the threads? I mean, seems easier to download an app, click root and be done with it. This app also presents you with an unroot button right? This seems a lot easier. I mean I'm sure the method posted here is easy too, but what could be more simple than such an app. Am I missing something?

One click root apps don't educate the user on what they are doing. Doing it "the hard way" at least requires the user to follow a guide and see the steps required, and at the same time learn a little about the process

I agree with kevin on this one. I believe everyone should do it the long way at least once. I did for my first time just to get a feel for the system. I only use z4 now for convenience if I have to reflash a stock image and root again.

Hmm... well I understand where you are coming from, but I am not sure I can agree. I would totally be on board if we were talking about some random root app that wasn't tested and talked about, but if the app, such as this one, seems to work, we have confirmations that it roots properly and there are no issues, why not advocate the use of it?

I feel this is exactly like Hackintoshing a computer. There was the longer/harder way, and now there are much more simply guides to do it. Not that the app is easy and the way you are suggesting is hard.

But to confirm... z4 works to root and vice versa unroot on the Samsung Fascinate?

I could never get z4 to work so I had to do it Dirrk's way. No big deal really, it's about as easy.

I've used multiple versions of z4 on 3 different Fascinates and all have worked. The very first time I did it I didn't have USB Debugging enabled. It poped up the development screen for me to turn it on, which I did, then it just sat there. Closed it and tried again and it worked perfect. That would be the only time I ever had a problem with it. The newest version has options for temporary and permanent root now but I haven't tried temp.
