Zoom currently not available

Why do I get "Zoom currently not available" when using volume key or finger pinch on screen?

I thought I might need to switch to manual, but tried that and still got the message.

I think I might have solved this. I tried zoom on the rear view camera and it works. So I assume it is not available at all for the front-facing camera. I don't see why not and it is annoying as I need to zoom it.

That's very strange. I don't have an Xperia but zoom works on any camera on all my smart phones.

It's just the front facing camera that gives the error message. It's possible some setting is incorrect, but if so I don't know what.
