ZTE Axon 7 Reviews Thread

I haven't toyed with the phone nor any other big phone outside of the Samsung S7 Edge, so I can't make a final judgment. But the buttons look about an inch or two from the actual home button. That'd have to be sorta troublesome I imagine.

Edit probably less than an inch, I'm pretty dumb when it domes to measurements off top.

They're not too bad. Coming from a phone with onscreen buttons, it's taking some getting used to, but I mostly like what we got. I think the buttons could use just a hair more space between them. Yeah, they could've been backlit, but I know the context of their inclusion. So I'm not too mad about it.

I like the A7, but there are just a number of settings that need to be added to compete with other devices. One that drives me nuts is getting notifications while on a phone call. Samsung struggled with this for years and finally added a setting that allowed the notifications to be disabled while on a call. I was just on a call and when an email came in. It buzzed in my ear, but the person on the other end also heard it. It is embarrassing. The email app needs to have a bunch more options to make it function like others (Samsung's is the best). Some call settings re missing (blocking numbers). The stock messaging app is a mess. The notification bell is just silly. When you indicate that you want to see notifications on the lock screen you should be able to see them. Block them if you do not want others to see them.

The screen is very good and I have no hardware issues. Sound is good through wireless headphones and on calls. Signal is pretty good, slightly lower than the S7 Edge. Wifi and bluetooth seem to work fine. The buttons do not bother me at all. I have not really tried the camera yet, but do not expect much based on everything I have seen. I will try it out over the weekend.

Overall it is very good, but there are a number of relatively small things that tend to add up to make it less enjoyable experience when compared to other phones. Time will tell if I keep it or not.

Phone came in EARLY today, I'm at work right now, but as soon as I'm done, I'll give my first impressions

I'll also try to touch on how calling works for me, a straight talk user

Great phone, but disappointing Wifi and cell signal strengths.
First once is from the Axon 7, second from the Nexus 6P in same location.

Something must not be right. I just tried my Axon 7 and Galaxy S7 Active side by side. Axon got 48.82 down and 12.42 up. S7 got 47.45 down and 12.75 up using same host server.

Mine are very similar too.

I can see that you ran the test while on WIFi, just try to see what settings are different on Wifi menu if any, I have seen many times with my many phones that every OEm has different WIFi settings, one allow this and the other allow that, try to see if everything is similar and if both are connected to the same channel (it should) and same frequency, maybe one is connected to 2.4ghz and the other to 5ghz and that itself can cause signal strength and speed issues,

I tried this at home too, with both connected to the 5GHz router. At the same level as the router, the speeds were about the same, but once I went down stairs one level, or up stairs one level the Axon 7's connection was between 3 to 5 times slower. It seems to be related to the distance from the router.

I'll try exchanging it. Course will have to wait for around a month for the next batch to be available.

That indeed looks like radio problems, together with your LTE problems I think that your best bet is to ask for a replacement. Good luck on your new one, I'd definitely hope for the best on mine, I'm waiting for my Quartz Grey to do company to my S7 edge as I already got rid of the HTC 10 (making space for the Note 7 but I'm really not convinced yet to get a third phone and so similar to my S7 edge) so I'll be doing what I always do, to keep switching between 2 different phones at least once a week.

Alright so I don't have a nano sim from Verizon's straight talk. I don't know whether to roll with T-Mobile or AT&T. It seems like ZTE is missing both carriers best bands.

They have T-Mobile Band 12. I didn't get a strong signal on it, but I believe my phone was faulty, and I'm returning it. T-Mobile with Band 12 is far superior to AT&T in most the country. I switched in March for my whole family and couldn't be happier with the savings, their network, and customer service. They also do updates significantly more quickly than AT&T.

What bands would that be? Seems to have all of the good ones.

In any case, after a few hours of using, I haven't had too many problems with the actual phone. The lowlight camera is about as mediocre as advertised, don't know what to do with that. The notification icon also is as cumbersome as advertised. I just put in a TMo straight talk sim which is running 2G, but I just scanned and ATT is 4G here....That was a pretty bad choice.

I picked the BAD things to list because everything else is pretty smooth. Speakers are fantastic, screen is nice, the aesthetics of the phone are great, and the camera does the job in day light. I would love if camera got an update for the auto to be slightly better in normal nightlight.

Does the 2 year warranty included cover battery replacement? So when my battery fails after 18 months or so will they replace it for free?
