Instructions for factory reset to install GB updates?

For several reasons, I am considering a factory reset to get all of the recent patches to install on my phone. Can anyone who has successfully done this provide step-by-step instructions on how to do this? In particular, I'm wondering whether the updates automatically pop up after the reset completes or whether I still have to go fiddling with the phone's date/time. Also, do I need to activate it before the updates pop up?

I hate to tell you this and I could be wrong but just doing a factory reset won't erase the GB update. Once it's downloaded and installed it is part of the phones OS. Doing a factory reset will only wipe all your personal data, apps, pictures stored on the internal memory (i think) and make the phone like its out of the box EXCEPT for whatever ROM the phone is running. If it was Froyo, it still be Froyo...if was Gingerbread, it's still going to be Gingerbread.

I currently am running the GB update that went out earlier this week and was hoping this would be a clean way to install the update that was failing for lack of space.

Like I said...all it will do is delete all your data and all of your apps and their associated data.

It sounds like your getting the "Low memory" warning" and there are probably a dozen threads on that on this site alone...Give em a read before going "Waco" on your phone.

I have to second what Wanda said.. do a bit of reading, and try some of the suggestions on the various threads.

Personally, I had the same issues and followed the various ideas proposed by the users here.. and now i'm running GB with the 4.08 patch. It really only took me about an hour to get through the reading and the actual process of setting the phone up to accept, download, and install the patch.

Since the 4.08 patch, I haven't seen the Low on Memory error and my phone seems pretty snappy, performance wise.

Yeah, a factory reset won't get rid of the 4.06 update. I did a reset after I got the 4.08 and it reset to 4.06. I've created much more phone memory, but am gun shy of the 4.08 update because of all the grief it caused me before my reset. I can't decide whether to try and install it or not.

I had to do a factory reset to install the 4.08 patch and it worked fine. I just went to the sd and storage menu and performed the factory phone and internal phone memory reset. As soon as I rebooted I logged into my google account and then the update was ready for me to install. Went thru the install very smooth, lasted five or so minutes.

So after the reset you had the 4.08 patch waiting and it installed without problem? Had you restored any of your apps before you accepted the update?

I did a reset and the patch is waiting on me to install it. However, I have reinstalled many of my apps, but still have 430MB of phone memory left. I'm wondering if it will work.

I followed the instructions on this forum to wipe my cache partition and am now running 4.08. Thanks.

I did not reinstall any apps or do anything at all but log into my Google account before I installed the patch. I restored everything after the install completed.

I did a factory reset and got the new update patch right away. It even got rid of the Sprint app on the Android marketplace & it saying I have a 4.3 screen. Everything is running smooth now.
