And now I can finally change my device name. :D

well darn, no more custom boot screen with the padlock. I was kind of digging it.

That is awesome, but perhaps this should be moved to the Rooting, ROMs, and Hacks section. Just my opinion. Great news either way!!!

Nope. This is a big enough deal and all Verizon GSIII owners should know.

Although I will probably root the phone in time, I doubt I will ever bother with the bootloader.

That said, I appreciate that VZW doesn't get its way in this matter.

No point in even rooting if your not unlocking.

I disagree. I would like to install ad free android to get rid of the ads, and install sixaxis to be able to use the DSIII wirelessly.

But you can do whatever you want with your phone.

Anybody unlock the bootloader yet?

Does the unlocked bootloader + AOSP-based ROMs still put the IMEI information at risk of being wiped?

Is it stable enough to use as a daily driver? Working camera/data and such?

Sorry for noob question but how does unlocking the bootloader improve a rooted phone?

It doesn't really. If you just want to be rooted stock, then there's no reason to unlock. If you're using any of the kexec roms, you'll want to be unlocked since the rom developers will be shifting to "unlocked" roms.
