Why do I have a clock symbol next to my sent messages on my HTC M8?

why do i have a clock symbol next to my sent messages on my HTC M8

there is a symbol that looks like a clock which just suddenly appeared next to my all my sent text messages that i have sent today. this has never happened before, the recepients have not received the messages.

That usually means that the messages are pending being sent. Can you make/receive phone calls, use data, or receive messages? There may be an issue with your service.
