After I installed Kitkat the sound is gone on my phone, why?

the sound has gone!

I have a week old KitKat android tablet and there is suddenly no sound on it at all. All the volume sliders in settings are on full. Can anyone help please?

Welcome to Android Central! What brand and model of tablet? Have you tried rebooting? If that doesn't help, you might want to do a full factory reset. If the problem persists, it's probably a hardware defect, which wouldn't be surprising if it's a budget/off-brand device. Since it's new, bring it back to the store for a refund or exchange.
