My sound settings for texts and phone calls are turning themselves off.

The sound settings for my text and phone notifications turn themselves off. I've chosen the tones I want and set the levels I want to hear them at. After a while I notice I have not received a call or a text. I'll check on the volume settings and notice they are turned down all the way. Friends, co-workers and family are wondering why I'm not returning calls or texts. A great phone other than this. Thanks to anyone who can help!!
