Why are some texts disappearing within my chat history?

I was reviewing a chat history and noticed a gap of time of about a month where all of my texts with that person have disappeared. The texts from before and after are still there. I checked my settings and I don't have the auto delete feature enabled so I'm not sure why random old messages are disappearing. I'm using the Verizon messenger app... any suggestions?
