Need to educate myself

Hello, Im getting more interested day by day to enter the world of 'unlocked' phones. Just tired of waiting for updates and carrier doubletalk when dealing with the various phone manufacturers, lol.

As a result, I'm coming here to inquire where I can educate myself more. I know that AT&T/T-Mobile have a different carrier network vs. VZW/Sprint....but what do i need to know before I purchase an 'unlocked' phone from e-Bay etc?

Will these carriers give me a hassle when I walk into store to get their sim (to use their network)? Or only if I am changing to their service? Hopefully that makes sense.

I guess the bottom line is, can someone refer me to a good site/URL where I can do some school work

And my 'best' would be to buy a Nexus branded phone to stay with Android OS?
