on verizons network what does 1X signal mean? I have 5 bars of 1X service on verizon.

It's short for 1XRTT. It's slow (very slow) 3G network technology that Verizon and Sprint use when your phone can't connect to LTE or 1xEV-DO (fast 3G).

It's normal, but if it continues you might want to contact Verizon to see if there are network issues in your location.
