KitKat 4.4.2: help with wifi?

My connected wifi icon was originally blue, but is now white. Checking wifi settings shows connected, but it's been wrong in the past. If wifi isn't actually connected, will I see the icon still? Should it be blue? Or has it changed? Please help!

KitKat changed the color to white. If you go into the Quick Toggles in the notification shade you can see the WiFi icon. When not connected to Google servers, it is orange.
