You make some valid points, but my original point for this thread was to show that the Maxx's camera isn't terrible, horrible, pathetic, or whatever hyperbolic adjective tech geeks want to use just to be negative. The camera is in fact pretty good, and can take some stunning pictures, as I believe this thread (and your post) has demonstrated. Sure it takes lousy low light pictures, but this is a camera phone--what can anyone expect in that area?
You're also a little self-contradictory--on the one hand, you're saying that no camera phone can really have the capability to take truly great pictures, but on the other hand, you're also disappointed that the Maxx's camera doesn't outperform what you already describe as the limitations of a camera phone.
All I can say is that in the past, when traveling, I always had to drag around my clunky point and shoot camera since my previous phone was an HTC Droid Incredible. Now, I hardly ever bring it unless it's nighttime.
