It is true that the Maxx does not take great photos. Do not look at the Maxx's screen as QA. Send it or upload it to a website or email then look at it on a large screen. Some photos are ...not great while others are good. I have two that I took that are good. The lighting conditions have to be optimal and the settings ont he camera must be right. DON'T bother trying to take photos in low light. Any camera wont really do a good job as the led light is not powerful enough to light up any surroundings. The sensor of the camera needs to be very sensitive and the software must allow for longer than average shutter times. (most don't). It'snot terrible, but it's not great, just good. For quality photos I use my SLR and shoot in raw. its phone, it images wont me perfect, wish Motorola could have done better though. This could have been the phone to beat.

You make some valid points, but my original point for this thread was to show that the Maxx's camera isn't terrible, horrible, pathetic, or whatever hyperbolic adjective tech geeks want to use just to be negative. The camera is in fact pretty good, and can take some stunning pictures, as I believe this thread (and your post) has demonstrated. Sure it takes lousy low light pictures, but this is a camera phone--what can anyone expect in that area?

You're also a little self-contradictory--on the one hand, you're saying that no camera phone can really have the capability to take truly great pictures, but on the other hand, you're also disappointed that the Maxx's camera doesn't outperform what you already describe as the limitations of a camera phone.

All I can say is that in the past, when traveling, I always had to drag around my clunky point and shoot camera since my previous phone was an HTC Droid Incredible. Now, I hardly ever bring it unless it's nighttime.

Dudes....we are all speaking the same language. I am fine with the camera. What I meant by my comment was that, even though its a camera phone and can't expect greatness from it. Wouldn't it be nice if it could take stunning photos though? I mean, If I go on vacation to Hawaii again, yes I would bring my SLR, but it would be nice to not have to drag along a bulky camera with exta lens and batteries. People say the iPhone camera takes absolutely great photos ( I doubt it) but why can't people same about Moto's camera? Really it could bave been just a little better. With that said it's all good though. I have two cameras and a video camera that I have to drag along if I need to take expert photos. You guys rock.

This shot looks like a Tiki Bar in Jamaica but it's just my Buddies Fold-up Tiki Bar on Sandy Neck Beach, Barnstable, MA

Just in case you Camera Folks haven't seen or tried it yet, I just downloaded Camera ZOOM FX. After using it for a couple of days, I was able to delete three separate Camera Apps I had been using for different functions. I love it - it has "Stabilizer Mode", "Voice Activated Exposure", "Burst Mode", "Collage Mode" and "Time Lapse"! For Modes, it has all the regulars plus "Fireworks", "Document", "Barcode" - 24 modes in all. Crazy app for camera people who like to experiment!

It's an excellent app, but my main beef is that it starts up kinda slow compared to stock.

Agreed... really nice B&W shot of the dock, "nogutsnoglory"! When I used to have a film SLR Camera, I used to love to shoot a roll of black & white now and then. You really have to think and compose to make B&W work... nice shot!

Thanks for the compliment! Black and white photography had always interested me, but like you say it really does take more effort to get a good shot. The dock was just lucky.:)

Camera fx is a fantastic app. I like that i can choose to set the focus to"fixed"to get the shot off quicker. Sometimes waiting for the camera to fix focus is too long.
