I was using the stock messaging app because I like it a lot and and I started to see that pictures looked like crap when sent to others even after changing the mms to 1000k. I then started using hangouts and saw that pictures are set more high quality, why is this happening on stock? This first image was sent via hangouts and the second image was using stock messaging app, you can see a big difference in quality

Which carrier are you on? I ask because if its Sprint, I remember when I had Sprint years ago, all of my mms sent at a low quality. That was back when I had a Gnex.

I think it has to do with how the different apps compress the image. Hangouts probably doesn't have limits like the stock app does.

I would use hangouts if I liked the UI, but I don't.

If you want the option to text from your PC you could do MightyText or MySMS. Both are free and really good! MySMS has the popup notification like ChompSMS.

What about textra? I'm new to android but people rave about textra.

Textra is a good messaging app and quite customizable. Just so you know, Textra and Chomp are made by the same developer. Each one is good, I've tried them both, they are just slightly different with a few different features from one another. There are many good messaging apps available, it's just a matter of preference mostly. The beauty of KitKat now is that in settings you can easily change the default messaging app with the tap of a button. So you can have several on the phone and switch between them at will until you find the one you like the most and the one that works best for you.

I've been using Textra since I got my phone and love it. Everyone can see my images clearly and I can theirs.
