Define disappearing? The stock app only retains about 200 messages per conversation, iirc.

My last text or one in the middle will send ans appear but then later will be gone. Or someone will send me a text and won't get it. Now having said that it's usually quite a few texts into a conversation

I discovered it was the ATT messaging back up function. I disabled it

Log into your My ATT acount, go to your phone plan add ons like any insurance. It's in that area.

Though it seems odd that it just started out of the blue like that. And why would a back up service cause messages within a convo to disappear?
