Moto Assist + Google Calendar

I recently discovered that I can set Moto to automatically set my phone to silent while I'm at church on Sunday by setting a weekly recurring Google Calendar event and telling Moto to "keep quiet" during "meetings".

This, though, fills my calendar's Agenda view with these events. If I uncheck my "Recurring Personal Events" calendar under "Calendars to display", Moto no longer has the option to include it for meetings.

I like that my phone can be auto-silenced at church, but I don't like to clutter my calendar agenda with events that I don't need to see. Is there a way I can mitigate this? If you all suggest other apps to use, I have concern for them to be reliable and not battery draining.

This personally doesn't bother me (to see recurring events in my calendar).

So, I am going to recommend a third party app anyway, because it's great. Sunrise Calendar will allow you to see whichever calendars in your Google account that you like, plus you can turn off the visibility of a calendar there but it will still show up in Assist. I don't think it uses any more battery than the stock calendar app.

If that doesn't work out for you, then I'd suggest just biting the bullet and keeping the calendar visible, because that silence during meetings feature is a fantastic one.

Ooh. Thanks.

My initial thought was that someone replying would suggest Tasker or something similar in automation that would do the work of Moto. But I glean from others that Moto is more reliable and less battery-wasting than such other apps with similar functions (like Tasker), even though Moto is generally more limited in functionality and customization.

I haven't had much experience shopping for other android calendars. So thanks! :)

Are there any other calendars besides Sunrise that you might recommend I look at?

The problems with the other ones (Google Calendar, for example, is one) is that I think if you turn off the visibility of a calendar in the one app, it does the same in the stock calendar, and hides it from Moto Assist. (I tried that earlier in Google Calendar, just to use the most obvious one.)

I always liked Business Calendar as well, but I don't have that one installed, so I couldn't test that visibility issue.

https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ps/details?id=netgenius.bizcal&token=CivxXc11 (there is also a Pro version of that app. https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ps/details?id=mikado.bizcalpro&token=0Ga9X1j_ - but they suggest trying the free version, which has ads, to see if it works for you.)

If you look at the listings in Business Calendar, they recommend some other apps that have been around for a long time: Jorte, oh, and apparently they have an updated Business Calendar 2: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...details?id=com.appgenix.bizcal&token=AvUv5REo

Here is what I like about Sunrise, and the reason that I originally installed it: it can connect not only to Google Calendars, but I was able to connect to a shared iCloud calendar that I needed access to, plus it can connect to Facebook for events, and to the service Trip It to get my travel plans in the calendar, all in one integrated place. It's a free app without ads, it's now owned by Microsoft, which seems to be keeping it up to date - there is a lot to like about it, IMO. You can use that to interface your calendars and then use the stock calendar app to add events to your calendar "Recurring personal events" if you want additional events other than church (weddings, funerals, wakes, etc.) and you'll get all of the benefit of Moto Assist and still have a great app (Sunrise) where you can access your events the way that you want.

BTW, there is a web version of Sunrise, here: https://calendar.sunrise.am/ so you can access your calendars in the same general interface on a "real" computer.

Don't use the calendar at all. Use Moto Assist and set church as a location. You can set the phone to be silent at any given location.
