Pixel XL Ordering Nightmare!

Pre-Ordered my 128 GB Pixel XL in Silver right at the tail end of the announcement on the 4th at 10:25am PST and got the confirmation email saying everything was good. I went out and pre-ordered some new cables and a couple cases and screen protectors to have when the phone arrived. Even posted my 128 GB 6P on eBay to sell by the end of next week.

While at work over the next week and a half I'd check it's status to see if any delivery date was added or any change in the PENDING status in my Google Store Order History and there was no change and I didn't receive any emails from them in those 12 days. So on Sunday the 16th I gave them a call since many on here had said that delivery estimates stated appearing and I just wanted to be sure that everything was on the Up & Up. Call and talk to 1 lady that said the delivery date should be between the 26th and 28th. Ok great. I had another question about shipping and she transferred me to another lady that then said the order was showing up as CANCELED. I asked why and was told the payment method had been declined and wasn't updated in 7 days. I told her I wasn't aware that there had been a problem, I hadn't been contacted about it and I'm looking at the order in my account and hitting refresh and it still is listed as PENDING! She told me I'd just have to reorder it and there wasn't anything more she could do for me. So pissed off I hung up and took to Twitter still hoping she was wrong...after all my Order History said the order was still active and PENDING! So I had my fingers crossed.

So all day Sunday I'm going back and forth with one of Google's top contributors @sgreenstonenj. He tells me to call back and ask for a senior rep and maybe the other rep had just been mistaken. So 24 hours after being told it was canceled I called again and spoke to a gentleman who looked at the order and said it looks good. Has the green check box next to it with a delivery date between the 26th and 28th again and that he wasn't sure why the lady the night before had told me it had been canceled. So I'm pumped again...Just gotta wait til later this week and I'll get a tracking number and be good.

Until last night at 8:21 EST I get an email from the Google Store saying...

"Thank you for using Google. Unfortunately, we were unable to verify some of the details for the following order. As a result the order has been canceled. You may resubmit this order by visiting Google Store again. To help us verify your order details, we recommend that your billing and shipping address match what is on file with your bank, and that the phone number listed in your Google account is one where you can be reached by our specialists.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions."

I immediately call them back and explain everything again and the girl says it says the order was canceled due to "insufficient funds", the card got declined. Again I asked why wouldn't I be contacted about this since it's an easy fix. Call the bank be like hey its me ordering that and everything would be good. I also asked why every hours before getting this email it would still say PENDING in my account and not even notify me in my account! It just baffled me. She told me that there was nothing she could do but that the system has been so busy that sometimes it won't update the system in time. I told her "That's not a real answer, you're Google...you have a server farm somewhere in Utah that does stuff like that!" She then went on about how she's sorry for the trouble but again she couldn't help me. I then asked about why the order took 14 days to get canceled for the payment getting declined if they cancel orders after 7 days like she initial told me. She said the system must be slow in sending out the email because of the volume of orders. So I asked to speak with a supervisor. She said they don't have any that I can just speak with now and that she could take my information and have someone call me back within 24 to 48 hours.

So now I'm just sitting here playing the waiting game. Seems not many people have had problems with the process. I just can't see this happening with any retailer. Amazon has the red notice above your orders. BestBuy sends emails right away if something goes wrong. I've never used Apple, but I'm sure this garbage would ever happen with their ordering process. Beyond frustrating!

Sorry to hear this.

I understand what you'd like to expect from Google. With BestBuy, I ordered the wrong phone (regular Pixel, not Pixel XL). So I cancelled the order and re-ordered the XL. All good.

But, my credit card company denied payment b/c it looked fraudulent, probably related to making to back/back purchases from Best Buy. I verified that the purchase was legit with my cc company, and the purchase went through.

Should have happened for you that way.

I only needed to be notified to fix the situation and now they say sorry we've just been too busy with all the orders to notify you! Just come on that's not what you expect from a retailer this big! I'm waiting for this supervisor to call me and see what they say if anything.

yeah it was a bit weird for me as well. My first order said declined but then I got an email after saying it had been confirmed.....luckily for me this was all at the same time and I simply switched which card I was using and placed a second order.

So...A supervisor called me around 3PM EST and talked to me about the issue.

So he apologized that the system never updated my order in the account and that it should have been notified as the status changed. I explained that I should be on the 1st wave of orders and the lack of info has just been frustrating. He said that unfortunately I'd have to join the wait-list and re-order but that he'd mark my account to get the DayDream headset whenever I get to order a Pixel. So yeah...Sucks. Google's retail isn't ready for PrimeTime in my book, but I still hope I can get a Pixel XL ASAP!

Add me to the list.. Ordered on launch day and it was cancelled a week later. Called Google and they did not know why it was cancelled..

Quickly ordered again as the black 32 was still in stock. Wake up today to an email saying this order was cancelled..

Called Google again and they investigate the reason.. Their response? My address was wrong.... umm nope sorry Google! I've ordered plenty using my address as listed.

Their response was oh well sorry.. order again and wait the 4-5 weeks for shipping..

Not sure what I am going to do.. Get a VZW one from them or BB or just get the new iPhone and call it day...

Google really jacked this all up.. 2 cancelled orders because according to them, my unit (I live in a condo) was listed without a # sign.....

I'm sorry for you guys. It seems like this stuff happens every year. I've been ordering stuff from Google for years and use the same CC so I've never had an issue. The only snag was this year when I used the 24 month no interest financing option.

I tried to order an 128GB very silver but didn't get approved on the spot, which surprised me because my credit is excellent. After searching about it, I found out that other people had issues also. I ended up calling them a day later and getting approved over the phone, but by then the 128GB model was out of stock, and I had to order a 32GB. Luckily I'm actually able to get a phone.

In my case Google is full of shiz... I've had about 12 previous orders that went through just fine. I had to laugh when the said my address was wrong because it did not have the # sign before my unit number..

I've had 2 Pixel orders cancelled and that's Google excuse? LOL.. They were full price purchases and I have plenty in the cards account to cover the charges..

I don't think Google has a clue and this was some lame excuse they gave..

Oh well, I'll take it as a sign that I am not suppose to get the phone and move on. I was already planning on getting the new MacBook Pro next week so maybe an iPhone is in my future.. I've never tried continuity between iPhone and Mac so this might be a signal for me to do so.. LOL

Honestly... I seriously wonder why anyone would come out with what is supposed to be a flagship phone at 32GB anyway... I would think the very minimum would be 64...

Pftttttt... I can get by with 16 and since Google gives you unlimited high res video and photo storage, I assume for most 32 would be a-ok..

Random cancellation happened to me last year when I ordered the 6P. Card had over double the funds, all card details were correct as I use the card for Google fiber auto pay.

They cancelled the order the day before my ship date and I lost all the preorder bonuses. When I called and complained to both the service agent and supervisor they both essentially told me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Had a similar mind frustrating experience last year while ordering a phone in an Indian e-commerce website, That problem dragged till a month until finally got cancelled. Surprised to see such problems exist in top notch companies too... bad things really happens for all randomly !!!

Add me to the list of Pixel orders falling thru the cracks, ugh... It's reminding me of my experience ordering my Moto 360 straight from Motorola. My order got cancelled with no rhyme or reason TODAY (Oct 19) after being placed on launch day, and it wasn't any sort of card/payment/auth issue...

The first time I called the rep actually jumped to that conclusion and totally wasted an hour of my day between the call with him, calls to my bank, double checking payment details, etc. I call again later today only to find out it has NOTHING to do with any of that, they simply cancelled it because their system deemed the address undeliverable.

The kicker is that in the last 3 years I've ordered and sent one phone, one tablet, 4 Chromecast Audio, 3 regular Chromecast, one Nexus Player, and one wireless charger to that very address thru their own Play Store... They recognize this and all they can say is "huh, that's weird, try ordering again?". Ffs...

The reps are being very nice and everything, and I've been nothing but respectful, it's obvious the order tracking and management tools they have are very very limited. Google needs to fix this ASAP if they wanna sell flagship devices at flagship prices.

At one point the rep called FedEx to verify my address but they couldn't help him without a tracking number (or a corporate account liaison probably) and my order never had one so that went nowhere. I'm just going around on a loop from supervisor to supervisor at this point, currently waiting on a call back after another hour and a half on the phone.

It's ridiculous, how can an address where they've sent nearly a dozen orders over the last several years suddenly be un-deliverable, and why on earth can't they A) contact me before canceling the order (probably kicking me back into a month long queue) B) run this check during checkout rather than two weeks after placing my order?

Does anybody know of a good Twitter account or higher-up to complain to? That seems to be the only way to get decent service with some companies these days, sadly. I REALLY want a Pixel, this isn't gonna discourage me, and I'd REALLY rather get it from Google in order to buy their warranty (one of the cheaper ones IMO), but they're making it really hard.
