Side effects of "share everything" plans:

1) These are PREPAY plans, you pay for the service a month in advance. This is a huge windfall for VZ. Assuming 80 million "subscribers" (more accurately know as profit centers), and a $100 average prepay when switching plans, that is $8 BILLION in immediate profit with zero expense. While not all subscribers will switch, the $100 is probably way low, so the point remains valid. This is a HUGE profit generator for VZ, created simply by making people pay up front.

2. This is an especially clever move in a down economy, as VZ can shut off your service at the first hint of non-payment. It used to be that if you were late your were late on LAST month, now you will be late on NEXT month.

Yes, I switched, and "saved" $30 a month, mostly by going with the bottom tier data 300MB plan, which is cleverly NOT displayed on the VZ website. You get to it by using the scroll arrows to go left from what appears to be the "minimum" 2GB plan. And you have to be persistent - the first scroll left reveals the 1GB plan, the second reveals the 300MB option. But only because it is a virtual monopoly and there are no other choices. It's the only carrier with any service in my area.

These corporate pigs are clever bastards.
