every phone I've had I've ran a launcher at some point, but the M8 is the best phone I've had straight out the box.

Forgive my stupidity, but I haven't yet made the plunge into the world of Android yet, (my contract isn't up until next month). Does a launcher do something similar to theming on a jailbroken iPhone? I'm just trying to learn as much as I can to ease the transition. Thanks

Oh this time of year is the best time to get a new Android phone imo. You'll have the pick of the bunch including new ones coming out in the next few months. Yeah a launcher basically replaces the ui of the phone. The theme changes, the way the phone operate changes... more or less everything. Plus you can download things like icon packs to change the way they look. Launchers are great, especially Nova Prime. It has a tone of customisable options. with the M8 I am happy running it the way it was delivered to me. I wouldn't want to change anything really. Also sometimes a launcher will increase the speed of the phone, but the m8 is perfect :)

Like Kevin Oates says. But there are also launchers that make the phone OS feel more like a desktop, allowing you to launch unrelated apps from within running apps: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e.../details?id=com.np.omkar.unity&token=ueovVOpR
