Tethering Noob

Okay so this is going to show how little I actually know about technology other than the basics, but could I add the mobile hot spot capability to my Sprint plan for my Evo for $30 a month and just use it for unlimited data as a hot spot for my xoom to access the internet when I am not in a wifi location?

Wouldn't this make more sense than getting bent over for $20+ per month for 1gb on Verizon?

I realize apps like pdanet exist for free, but it sounds like a lot of extra work to make them work for devices like the Xoom
