Why aren't my menu buttons working after the Android 5.1 update?

Android 5.1 update-menu buttons not working

Hi.I've just downloaded android 5.1 hoping it would fix some of the bugs,it seems much worse though.now the buttons at the bottom of the screen used to go back or home aren't working at all.tried turning off and on (quite a few times as only way I can exit an app)but that doesn't change anything.my phone has been rubbish since the lollipop update

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Was this an official update over the air, or did you manually install it?

Since moving to Android 5, have you done a factory restore or a cache wipe?
