Why does my Phone and Messaging Storage take up so much space?

[Android Central Question]

I have an LG V30 and my 'Phone and Messaging Storage' is taking up 32.64 GB of internal storage. I've just cleared all my old text messages and contacts and even reset my message app to factory settings trying to clear out some of that space. I also got a SD card to see if this storage app would transfer over, but it didn't. I can't clear any data or change the app any way that I know of. Is there some way I can clear some of this data because I feel like it's taking up way too much space?

What messaging app are you using? Stock LG messaging or something else?
