Question why does my screen go gray and i can't control anything?

my screen goes gray and dosent show anything other than the side bar. it dosent lat me n9rmally reset or shut down but when i hold the power it showes the screen that had shut down, restart or call emergency services. I know how to get it back to normal via force restarting but how do you make it completely stop??

aswell as that it happened yesterday when i put a video up on my public snap acc and happened this morning but last night the screen went back to normal after putting it into sleep and i put it onto the lock screen and it worked fine but this morning it was totally unresponsive and i had to force restart but is it really only a screen issue or is it sonething worse?... is it a problem with the battery...
I use a Samsung A12 with 4GB RAM and a very bad cpu

It sounds to me like impending hardware failure. It would be prudent to back up your personal data while you still can.

Try safe mode if still acting up?
Back up now because incase something happens at least everything back up , to prevent surprises.

You don’t have to back up, but if a device fails, or accidental damage occurs, personal data may be lost without one.

ok, thanks for advising me, i should be getting a new one soon anyways but i was just wondering what was going on

Welcome to Android Central! As belodion also suggested, I would test it in Safe Mode: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00062983/

If the problem doesn't happen in Safe Mode, then something you installed is probably causing the instability. You'd have to uninstall apps one by one until the problem goes away.
